Help Phone locks while on a call

When I am on a call the phone screen locks. I have to unlock it and then put in a password to get into the phone to turn mute on or off. This process takes 15 or 20 seconds and it causes a problem when someone is asking me a question on a conference call....

I've searched but I can't find information on how to disable the lock feature while using the phone. I have my screen timeout setting at 10 minutes but that doesn't seem to apply to phone calls. Anyone know how to disable this feature or get around it with a shortcut?

i think you are SOL. a few other options: 1) use speakerphone, but that will drain the battery with the screen being on, 2) use a bluetooth or plugged in headphone(s) that comes with mute option.
