Help Phone not picking up bluetooth headset?

My HTC Inspire does not pick up my new bluetooth headset. Ive followed all the steps that Im supposed to but to no avail... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
What headset do you have?
Also when trying to link to headset is the phone not finding the device or is it pairing but then not connecting?
