Help phone not recognizing when it's put on charger

My phone no longer shows that it's "charging", but it beeps if I unplug it and says to connect the charger. I'm not sure how to restart the phone (I think that might fix the problem) other than taking the battery out. Of course, I pulled the "Pull Me" tab, so it's going to be a pain to get the battery out. I just thought I'd ask first...

left in on the front seat of your car?

i've had this problem when the phone is hot. the battery has an overheat sensor in it (to prevent overcharging? i dunno...), but it can be triggered by ambient temps as well. the trigger temp is 50*C.

left mine in the car. got back, put it in the dock for nav on the way home, and there was no charge indicator. unplug the power and i'd get the 'you disconnected power, unplug your charger' message...so it knew it was plugged in.

i check battery stats, and instead of charging/discharging, the status said overheat. as soon as it hit 49*, it changed to charging and the indicator came back on.
