Help Phone Off Check?

I have a stupid question again. My girlfriend asked how do you check to see if your phone is off without turning it on? Reason she asks is because when she's taking a college exam the professor asks that all phones are placed in plain site and turned off. The professor randomly checks to see if the phone is actually off but it turns her phone back on. Then she has to wait for it to boot up to turn it off again.

I always wondered about this to

She could install an app like Any Unlock and have it to where the volume button unlocks the phone. Then she can show the teacher that it can be checked that way.

There probably is an app that let's you unlock your phone in a different way rather then pressing the power button, but the best 100% way to know that it's off is to remove the battery.

But how do you know the phone is actually off without turning it on again? Her argument is with her old iphone you can just press the home button (square at the bottom of the phone) to check if the phone is on or not

If the battery is sitting next to the phone that's usually a pretty good indicator that it's off. :p
OB

That...or SCIENCE will prove that the phone still is ON! O_O

But yeah, I can understand that. Alternative is Sweep2Wake enabled kernels. Turn it on, show them the difference. (Or silence the phone and put it away in a bag or something? Just another thought.)

Leave the phone at home that day.
If it's an iPhone, or you can't remove the battery, then I dunno. If the teacher checks, chew the teacher out for turning your phone on, and ask for more time on the test as this would clearly cloud your concentration (not to mention those around you).

After the professor turns about 6 or so phones on that were already off, policy may get adjusted.

Install an app that makes the exorcist girl jump on-screen and shriek when the power button is pushed, and condition the professor to expect fear and a pounding heart whenever he/she is near your girlfriend.

I know I saw an app somewhere that let's you unlock your phone by moving your finger across the proximity sensor, that could help. If it doesn't unlock then it's most likely off. Seems to me that she has a stingy professor, lol.
