Help Phone randomly selects as if I'm pressing it in messaging or gmail app

Hello everyone just recently my GN has been randomly selecting parts of my screen as I'm writing a text message in the stock messaging and gmail app.

As I'm typing away it all of a sudden selects my name and a window with my number pops up as if I selected my name in the stock messaging app. In gmail it does something similar but instead it selects the recipient's email and as I'm typing it continues my message in the recipient's field! It's extremely annoying and this started happening about 3 days ago or so. So it's not something hardware related. I'm hoping someone out there has a fix for it or if maybe there is something I should do to clear out any problems. Thanks very much!

If the apps aren't loaded fully I could see them not cooperating nicely. I do that on my Droid X the page reloads and moves on me as I type into message boxes etc..

What can I do to fully load them or have them running correctly? Should I force close the app? I tried a batter pull and that didn't help. Thanks!

IS your phone plugged into the charger when this happens?

No it's not. Actually I do have over 5,000 messages between me and my best friend I just never gotten around to deleting them. I'm going to try to delete them but it'll freeze my phone up for a bit.

The erratic random selecting without me touching has been a very recent thing. I've never dropped by phone or anything. It's pure stock.......the only thing I could think of was the other day I tried to cancel some apps to save on memory. But then again if I did a hard reset it should've restored those apps back to normal. I just did a normal "clear data" and "force stop" and that's really the last thing I remember doing.

Hmm well it could be some random app running in the background that's not playing nicely with ICS.. or it could be a hardware issue (my flash memory completely failed on me 10 days into owning my first GN and I did nothing to prompt it.. just woke up one morning and it was bam).. I can't think of anything else besides maybe restoring your phone to factory settings and seeing if the problem persists (if not, then it's an app/software issue; if yes, then it's likely a hardware issue).

Are you sure you're not hitting your face in the text message as you're typing by accident?

haha pretty sure. I just did a factory reset. I'm gonna try it out now see if everything is cool. Thanks for the info!

OK, well the factory reset did nothing.......This pos sucks. I had my HTC Inc for almost 2 years and it's solid as a rock. I probably should've listened when folks on this forum kept saying that Samsung makes crappy phones. I don't have insurance for thing thing but I wonder if there's some sort of warranty that covers it from defects? I'm glad I never rooted or modded this phone. It's been pure stock since day 1

Its a nexus the boot loader is un lockable you can flash or root easily on nexus. Yes a year manufacturer warranty sorry you're not enjoying the nexus its a great phone my opinion.

Flashing a custom rom could help?? You can lock or un lock the boot loader on nexus phones so being rooted or running custom kernels, roms, and then going to 4.0.2 back to stock is easily done on the device. Try to clear cache and data of the app/apps and maybe fc them.

I went ahead and just factory reset everything and it's still giving me the same problems. The really annoying part is that it automatically selects a person and dials them!.........that's definitely not good. The curious part is that I've had this phone since launch day and it only started doing this a few days ago.
I'm going to give it until the next OTA update (whenever THAT is......) if it doesn't fix it I'm just going to return it for a Motorola Razr Maxx or something. I know HTC makes very solid phones.

Sounds like you just got a phone with a hardware defect.. every manufacturer has a warranty, you should be able to get a replacement no problem.

Remember, just because there are a lot of people on this forum who post about problems with their phone doesn't mean that everyone who owns the GN has problems with their phone.. it's just that everyone who doesn't have problems doesn't bother joining or posting about it because they are perfectly content.

Every device has issues.. things go wrong with manufacturing because humans are not perfect. Just because you got lucky and got a device without flaws last time, doesn't mean you will get lucky every time. I've had hardware issues with 3 of my iPhones from 3G to 4 such as: detached vibrate switch, vibrate switch not working, poor oleophobic coating, poor speaker.. which have all resulted in me replacing the phone under warranty.. and this is from a company that's apparently known for having no hardware issues. So I don't know what you're expecting.

My first GN also had a hardware defect.. 10 days in, the flash memory failed completely. I exchanged it and the GN I have now is flawless. My SGS2 is still working flawlessly as well (I gave it to my mother). So I disagree that Samsung makes bad hardware; I think it's just as prone to defects as other high-end electronics manufacturers.

Yes thank you Stenzor well put. I've been working and just got off of work so sorry if I wasn't helpful so much solo, yes you probably need another Gnexus.
