Help Phone stops ringing or notification of text message

My wife's Fascinate has developed a habit of spontaneously refusing to ring when a call comes in, or giving a notification when a text arrives. I rebooted the phone, and it starting working "properly" for a bit, but then she'll realize later that it hasn't notified her of incoming messages, and she'll see that she has voicemail.

My Fascinate - bought the same day - does NOT do this. I've been searching the Internet, and especially the Fascinate forums, for any suggestions. The most common seems to be "return the phone under warranty". I shudder to think of how long I'd have to wait at a Verizon store at this point in the year...

The phones aren't rooted, and don't even have that many extra apps on them. I'm going to check her phone tonight to see if there's anything "weird" on it (some messages I've found suggest that some task killers might be an issue, but I'm not sure she has one installed. I don't.) They're not that old - a couple of months, maybe.

Anyone had the same issue, or better yet, fixed the same issue?

Thanks.

OMG! I'm having the same exact issue with the phone not ringing, or doing exactly what it wants! I'm so freaking frustrated with this phone...I want to throw it out the window driving down the highway!

Bit of an update (no pun intended)...

I looked at my wife's phone, and found that there were a bunch of updates waiting for it. One was for Angry Birds Seasons, which is something she plays a lot. We did seem to notice that one time, after a Power Off/Power On cycle, which got things working normally, the only app she'd used was Angry Birds Seasons. And the phone started acting wonky.

She took the updates, and so far, we have NOT had a repeat of the "silent treatment" from the phone.

Not sure that this was indeed the fix - it could have been a side-effect of the updates, or it's something else entirely that hasn't come up yet, but so far, it's seemed to help.
