Help phone storage space is getting low

brink

Newbie
I keep getting this warning. I don't have a lot of apps. I have deleted all text messages. What can possibly be causing this?

Gmail's don't download when I have this warning.

Have you cleared all cache in manage applications?

by going into "internet" and clicking "clear cache" or is there some general clear cache option I'm missing in there?

thanks.

Go into Settings, then tap Applications, then tap Application Management. You can sort the apps that are listed by size if you hit the Menu button.

Go into the apps that are taking up the most space and tap the button that deletes the cache. Do not delete the data.

Hmmmm...tried that. Almost nothing had a cache. All clear and still have the storage warning.

thanks.

have you tried advanced task killer it might help. I havnt had the warning problem but does get a bit slow on start up

can you please give us the mem of all 3:
Internal storage
system storage
cache storage

it does look like you have used a lot of the storage. you may not have a lot of apps, but they maybe very big apps. I bet your hero is very laggy.

options:
1. remove apps till you get more memory back.. you should be above 50mb free; if you want better performance. The more the better.

if you are rooted and running custom ROMs.......

2. for android 2.1 or lower: use Apps2sd and move some of your apps to your SDcard.

3. for android 2.2 or higher: use the internal feature to move apps to SDcard

4. use the Firerat Mod and combine all the LOST free memory into usable memory. This can be combined with options 2 or 3 for even more memory. (not for the non-tech)

Set up your Quick System Info.app. to clear all caches with that seperate icon on your main screen, that way you can clear all caches at once and anytime you want.If that doesn't help then back up everything and do a full reset.

not rooted.

internal storage - total: 160mb, free: 10.81mb
system storage - total: 170mb, free: 6.52mb
system cache - total: 130mb, free: 125mb

thanks.

the quick task killer?

task killers cannot help you here. it only kills app RUNNING in mem.

your prob is that your mem is too small, because you have to much apps LOADED.

is your phone very very laggy?
does it lock up a lot?

you need to start evaluating which apps are not important to have LOADED all the time... only load from market when needed.

or look at my options for ROOTed phones.

thanks. I really didn't think I had that many apps but I guess I'll have to pare down.

yeah, fairly laggy...

First, root your Sprint HTC Hero, then install an Android 2.2 based ROM or Android 2.1 and deal with the partioning of Apps2SD. After that, reinstall your apps and move as many as you can to the microSD card.

Just a word of caution, do not move widgets to the microSD card. That will cause significant performance degredation.

com.htc.socialnetwork.... takes up 12.24mb

what is that?

Sounds like that might be the information stored for Facebook contacts. I am not 100% sure on that though.

I have seen a couple threads about that taking up large amounts of space. Try searching the forum and giving them a look.
