Hi all,
I have rooted my phone using unrevoked3. i have rooted it successfully and then tried to put cyanogenmod 7 rom onto it. I downloaded the zip file on the phone and saved to sd card. I then pressed volume down and power button and went into recovery, i then installed the zip file by following the prompts, i went to reboot and then now i am stuck on the boot screen just saying htc .

sorry i am a noob to this and have read the guides but still have come unstuck. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

As the guys have said, the problem sounds like you didn't wipe the phone (factory reset) before flashing the ROM. The settings from the previous ROM are incompatible, so the phone won't boot. Normally you need to do this before any change of ROMs (there can be exceptions, where they are sufficiently similar, but as a general rule you always wipe first).

If you backed up your data before flashing the ROM then just get back into recovery and wipe from there, then reboot.

If you didn't back up your data before flashing the ROM, did you take a backup from recovery (aka nandroid backup)? If so, I'd suggest restoring that, taking your app/data backup (Titanium Backup), plus your preferred call log/message backup tool (MyBackup, SMS Backup+, etc), then wipe and flash the ROM again.

If you didn't take any backup but don't mind losing your data, just wipe and the phone should boot fine.

If you didn't take any backup and do mind losing your data, let us know. There are no guarantees, but we've sometimes been able to get things back by flashing a basic rooted stock ROM, i.e. something very close to the original ROM, without a wipe. No promises though.
