Help phone troubles

I have been having issues with my phone. It will restart when I unplug it from my computer. It will also sometimes crash, and restart on apps (rare), and it seems to run slow in general. my device is not rooted. sometimes when i power it off manually, it will freeze at the "shutting down" stage. is this an issue with the hardware, or software? i was told that if I root it, then it will run faster. is this true?

Rooting alone won't make it run any faster/better. You'd have flash a custom kernel and/or rom to improve performance. If all you are concerned about is the stability, you might try a factory reset first. Make sure you back up everything you want to save prior to doing that because it will clear all user data. (It shouldn't effect the data on the sd card, but it's best to be backed up).
