I've been using my younger sister's old Galaxy S for the past 2 days as a temporary phone. Up until this morning, I haven't had any issues with it. I had plugged in my phone to charge before I went to bed. When I woke up this morning, I noticed my phone wasn't on. I tried powering it up, but wasn't responding. As soon as I unplugged the charging cable, My Galaxy S began booting up. When I tried plugging it in later today, the phone's screen went black and it shut off. after trying to use all the buttons, I unplug the phone and once again, it begins to boot up. I have tried 2 different cables and also different electrical outlets/usb ports. I have also tested the same cables with a few other phones, and they worked perfectly fine.

(Side note: I managed to get my phone to stay on and charging after repeatedly trying to get it to work. However, the phone turned off when I tried to move it while it was plugged in.)I've been using my younger sister's old Galaxy S for the past 2 days as a temporary phone. There's a setting somewhere that allows you to set your device to either go to sleep/turn the lights off or remain awake. Stop trying to make it work, its some kind on setting that you have to locate within your settings.

You could have a failing USB port.
