Root Phone will not boot into recovery

Hey all, I did a full wipe, including cache, and got stuck in a boot loop. I pulled the battery, and when I hold down the volume and power button to boot into recovery so I can restore, the phone vibrates three times very quickly, then nothing. I can turn it on and go into boot loop, but that's it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
 
Crisis averted. After about a half dozen battery pulls I got it into recovery, and it's restoring now. Phew. I thought I'd have no phone for the night, then get stuck with an SLCD version. I've had mine since release day, so that would have sucked pretty hard.
 
Make sure you are holding volume down first then press power, you were going into diagnostic mode, which is what those 3 vibrates mean.
 
Oh damn, I must not have been pressing hard enough. I was wondering what that meant. Thanks for the bit of info though. Answers my other question which was, what the hell was that?
