Help Phone won't dial numbers with +44

When I synced my phone's contacts with my facebook contacts, I saw that some of the numbers had the +44 prefix. This didn't seem like a problem until I tried to dial a contact's number that was taken from Facebook.

When it dials it just plays a long beeping tone and won't connect to the contact. I can text the contact fine but not ring.

Also, I can not change the number in my phone as it is from Facebook.

Does anyone have a way to solve this issue?

add their number (either as 0 or +44) to your phonebook as another mobile, then make it the primary number
