Help phone wont turn on

Hi my htc inspire wont turn on and the light wont even show when its connected to a charger. Recently I dropped it but it was working fine. Today it froze so I had to take the battery out but when I removed the side cover the volume up and down button came off with it. Now the phone wont turn on at all or even show the light when connected to the charger. Is the side button required to make the phone turn on? also the back cover (where the flash is) seems to be beaten up a little. Could either of these lead to this problem? thank you for the help it is appreciated.
 
I checked the continuity on the bottom cover where the sim goes and it is good as well as the side cover where the battery goes. The flash cover / gps doesn't have continuity though so could that cause this problem?
