Help phone won't update

Hi folks,

Firstly I have not got a clue about software, firmware or anything like that so I apologise if I get confused with any replies!

Basically, I smashed my screen in April and when I sent it off for repair I sent a letter with the phone and another letter in its own stating not to reset the phone which the idiots done anyways as it appears they can not read... so once i got the phone back I tried to update it with no success, when the wee android man cones on the screen the loading bar goes about 1/4 of the way then he falls on his side with a red triangle coming out if his stomach :-/ I've tried to update the phone multiple times since with no luck and its begging to annoy me as I had thee most up to date update before I smashed the screen...

Can anyone help me with this?

That is recovery mode. You need to press, either Vol+ and power at the same time or maybe Vol+ Vol- and Power at the same time. Keep trying until it brings up the recovery menu. From there you should be able to reset the phone.
 
It's not good that the phone is automatically defaulting to that though.

If you can manage to get into recovery with those directions that Tim gave, you can use the volume buttons to navigate through the menus and try to get to the factory reset it might be just the fix the device needs.
 
Tried that guys and my phone just kept doing the same thing after the factory reset :-/

I've read something about u can have the wrong radio which can cause this?
 
What did you do when you said you "tried to update it"? Did you manually try to apply an update? Did you try to install a ROM? Or did the phone try to update itself?
 
I tried to let the phone do it itself then when that failed via the reboot menu I tried to update it 5 times from there all with the same outcome :-/
 
if it does it after a factory reset I would guess it must have a corrupted firmware. I haven't played with roms and recovery since my OG Droid but I'm betting you can flash a new copy of the stock ROM and it will boot.

What options do you get in recovery mode?
 
Sorry for the delayed reply!

This is everything I get up:

Reboot system now
Apply update from/cache
Wipe data/factory rest
Wipe cache partition

Inside the "apply update from/cache" menu:

Didn't want to go into the other 2 just in case I rest anything again.
