Ok I'm rooted and I took a look at XDA's list and wanna remove a bunch of this bloatware but i also read that you should backup your rom first i havent flashed a custom rom yet im waitin for CM7 for the photon (its in progress):).
So i wanna know how to backup my stock rom and what that entails completely......then afterwards it says to clear cache and delvic cache??? Does this sound right just looking to get this crap off my phone mates....

Honestly, I would get Titanium Backup and "freeze" some of the programs rather than delete them. Just in case there's an update that requires those programs to exist on the phone.. But if you seriously want to delete, I would get the Bootstrap Recovery or CWM Recovery..easy one to use is Boostrap..when you install the apk, you will then open up "System Recovery" app. Click install recovery, plug in the phone into the AC adapter and click "Recovery Mode". It'll reboot the phone into Boostrap recovery. I forget the exact details here, but use the volume rocker to select backup/restore and then select nandroid backup. The phone will do it's thing and then restart...I always save a 2nd copy to my computer or external SD card.

Good luck,
K

When you do a backup using bootstrap where does it get saved to: the sd card or internal memory?

I think CM7 is a custom rom and you can't flash custom roms it to your photon without unlocking your bootloader. Unlocking breaks 4G capabilities by the way. So if you use bootstrap recovery described by KB1616 above, you can't flash a custom roms because that bootstrap recovey app doesnt unlock the bootloader..qbking77 has a video on youtube i think for both bootstrap recovery and the real clockworkmod that unlocks the phone. And both allow back ups for your photon.

????

I've rooted my photon and I didn't notice an inability to get onto 4G now:confused:

Though I am having a random problem with the market not wanting to update apps on 3g
