Picked up my car dock today. Haven't had a chance to mount it but I took it out of the box and checked it out and it's definitely a quality piece. I love the fact that it's built with an interface for the aux jack in your car. This is just putting my iPod touch 4G even further on the shelf.

Yup. The aux 3.5mm output gets any wires out of the way from needing to connect directly to the phone! Only thing I don't love about it is the fact that it doesn't bi-pass A2DP audio (since it's connecting via USB, not the 3.5mm jack on the phone).

Some, if not all, current bluetooth headsets have a2dp technology. That allows your bluetooth headset to hear all audio in your headset, as well as voice dialing through bluetooth. If I connect my aux adaptor to the phone's 3.5mm jack, the bluetooth a2dp gets bi-passed because priority goes to hard wire headset. But if connected through the 3.5mm adaptor, that's drawing connection through usb, it doesn't override a2dp. So when I end up hearing the music on my jawbone icon instead of the car speakers.

ahhhhh thanks. Makes sense. I dont think that would be an issue for me,... I've just never been a bluetooth headset guy. I favor the wired headphone kind.

I noticed others were having problems with the audio shorting out while using the case/holster still attached to their phone in the car dock. Did anyone find a solution or try another dock/phone? I'm having the same issues and was wondering if taking one or the other back would solve the issue.
If I can get this issue resolved I couldn't be happier with this phone, car deck and holster.

How many people have tried using the car dock with a case? I have read mixed results... some people say it doesn't work, even with the insert removed, and others say it works fine. Anyone tried with the Otterbox Commuter? I would like to get a case but I like the and am not fond of the idea of constantly pulling the case off if they're not compatible.
The Otterbox ones are too big.
The Sprint/Moto holster/back cover one works fine on the car dock providing you take out the insert on the car dock.

Wait a sec...now this is new. Are you saying the the Commuter is too big for the Car Dock as well? I was told otherwise and just wanted to verify.
I have the dock and sprint case-holster. The dock is obviously designed to be able to insert the phone with out removing the case. Unfortunately, mine doesn't work that well. The phone will remain in the car mode but the audio will short out unless I 'squeeze' the phone down. I have no problems if I remove the case and use the insert. Thinking about taking it back to the store since I was told that this would work. It is a very easy case to slide on and off.
My wife took her Dremel tool and modified the opening in the Sprint case to exactly fit the raised section on the dock. She used the insert as the guide; works better with the case than without as it exactly fits and guides the connector in place.

Going to try and set up my HD Station on my desktop as a 2nd/surfing "computer" to use alongside my desktop computer. Next step is a "cheap" or used monitor with an HDMI input or do they make HDMI to VGA adaptors? (I would think the later would be cheaper and would open up my search to ANY monitor)

Good to hear the case/holster thingie at least works. I have no love for holsters, but I've heard good things about the case. May just have to go pick one up. My car does not have an audio-in jack, so that part of the car dock is not overly useful to me at the moment.

I have the holster case, and mine doesn't work with the dock. The phone won't go down into the dock all the way, and I can never get the car app to activate with the case on. I just end up popping off the case and using the dock with the insert. The case comes on/off easily, so it's not really a bother at all.
I decided awhile back that i was going to stop buying every car dock made for every phone because I'm a phone junkie and I would be broke! I decided to get a generic car dock that can hold any phone even in its case. I paid $18 for it in a store in Raleigh, N.C. and its been great. It sticks great. I have a Nexus and an Evo on Boost and now have purchased the Photon just yesterday and my solution is the Car Home app. Its free to try foe 30 days and then its a $1.99. It has been very useful.
It tells your speed, gives you your forecast and will tell you what street your on and also the city...it speaks this also. You can customize your home screen as well. I made a short video of it...sorry for the quality but its hard to drive and hold the camera at the same time. I was listening to Pandora in the video.

A little dremel work will absolutely fix it and make it better than the bare case with the insert. The reason is you can make it an exact match to where the case exactly aligns the connectors when sliding the phone in the dock. It does take a little trial and error to make it perfect.

One thing I have to say about the Motorola dock that I absolutely LOVE is the fact that the top portion of the dock that clamps down on the phone snaps up, so that it's easy to insert and remove the phone!
The HTC dock for the EVO was designed specifically for the phone and fit great, but I always worried that it would eventually start rubbing off some of the paint, based on how one would have to insert the phone. The MoPho dock eliminates that issue with the top clamp. Such a simple thing like that can be SO genius!...LOL.

What is more amazing is how patient she was when I kept bringing it back for rework as it wasn't quite perfect. I wanted it to slide in with no need for any jiggling to seat the connector.

Sounds like your wife is a pro. How much would she charge to fix mine? I'm sure it would be cheaper then me purchasing a Dremel and going thru three cases.
A small rounded file would do it also; that would have been my choice before my wife volunteered. Actually, she won't let me use her dremel set; I get even by not letting her use the chain saw.
