I finally did it! After buying some adaptors for XD cards with little success I discovered that I can connect my camera to the tablet via the USB lead that came with one of the adaptors and a USB adaptor on the tab. The lead looks the same as the one that came with the camera to connect it to a USB port on a pc. The adaptor is just an OTC cheapie.
So stoked to know I can backup my photos while on a pacific island with no internet access in a few months and don't have to cart my laptop
