Help Photos Slowly Disappearing

A few photos each day will suddenly slowly disappear. The photo's thumbnail remains intact, but the photo itself will just show a partial block of the image with the rest just gray, or odd lines. It first began with photos on the internal storage, so I moved them to the external sd card, and it is happening there as well. I've tried other gallery apps and sending them to the computer, but it appears they are permanently corrupted. Anybody else have this problem or solution? (Other than the easy response of factory reset)

I've had that exact behaviour on old SD cards. After getting used for a while, they can wear out. Some use cruddy quality TLC that can kill itself in just a couple hundred erases.

I have no explanation for why it happened when saving to internal storage. For an SD card though, the answer is obvious. It's worth noting that NAND longevity suffers in extremely hot and cold places, or places that have the temperature change a lot. If you leave your phone baking in your car, that could cause issues.

Is there any other weird behaviour, like apps crashing? If so, could be bad RAM or something... but honestly, bad NAND is more common.

Nothing else is behaving weird, and the apps are okay. It happened a few times when all my photos were on the internal drive...after a few days my sd card arrived and I started saving things there and was real disappointed when it was still happening. So with this new phone I have to backup my photos elsewhere fairly soon or risk losing them.
 
I'd contact LG... your phone might be defective in some way. I've been taking tons of photos, and they don't mysteriously corrupt themselves.

Is there any pattern to it, like it happens after charging, etc.?

No pattern, it'll happen as I flipping through photos in the gallery every few days, and usually 2-3 at a time. Since my LG G4 it's not dependable, I've started to automatically backup my photos as they're taken.
