Help Physical Keyboard Issue

Of course, my 30 month old Droid Eris still works just fine, as well as my Motorola Q9h circa 2007. Perhaps I'm just careful about my stuff?

That very well could be. Though if you have ever dropped any of those at all, I still have you beat. I have small hands and don't use excessive pressure on the keys. I'm the kind of guy that does all the maintenance on his vehicle and I sell every one of them with no less than 250,000 miles. Why would I expect the same on my phone? Silly me. I guess I'm just holding it wrong. Might as well buy an iPhone if that's the case. My iPod Touch Gen 1 (circa 2007) still works fine. Pffft.

I've got an XT860 (the Canadian Droid 3) and it's been suffering from the random missing/double keys problem for some time, but I think I've found a solution; I cleaned my keyboard.

The way I cleaned it was to spray it with Servisol Super 10 Switch Cleaning Lubricant. I sprayed enough so that the keyboard was totally flooded with liquid, and then tried to work it into the underside of the keys through pressing, rubbing, and spraying (lightly) with an air duster can. I repeated this 3 or 4 times, and then wiped off the residue with a cloth. I haven't seen any repeat behaviour of the sticking or non-responsive keys since I did that - how long it will last, of course, I've no idea, but I would definitely class it as "fixed" for now.

Obviously, people try this at their own risk, but I thought I would share this as I had fallen out of love with my phone since the keyboard started to become unusable, but now I think it's great again.

Cheers,

Steve.

I have been having a problem with the "N" key not responding for a while now. After reading StevenPritchard's post I decided to just run my finger over the keys repeatedly back and forth for a few minutes and patted the keyboard on my hand to loosen and remove any particles that may be stuck underneath the key. Now the N key works like New-
