Picking up my EVO V today!

I just called my local RadioShack and they have two in stock, so I told her to hold one for me! I am so excited. I was on VM for the OV, but then, like an idiot, I decided to go to Verizon... I am so glad to be back with a powerful android smartphone. Hopefully we as a community can make this phone great!

Whatever you do, don't let them activate it for you.

let us know how it works for ya. issues of all kinds seem to be running rampant with these phones.

i myself was on the hunt for one yesterday to no avail.

Rampant? Seems a few folks are having a problem, everyone else is just enjoying their sweet new phone. IMO

Most of the "Issues" are minor at best. Most people jumped the gun and turned the phone on prior to activation, Then enabled WIFI. This interfered with the activation/provisioning process.

My issue was minor too, I've just got hardware that is a bit sensitive around the power button. It makes it to where I can't have a tight silicone case on it or it'll reboot itself.

Best way to activate this phone is through customer service. That's how I did it.

Keep your new phone off until you are done with activation/port in/etc.
It's hard I know but it's worth it for the smooth no issue provisioning. =]

Turning wifi on before activating should not mess up the rest of the phone though. Pretty rubbish, doubt you see that with major companies.

I too was able to finally find one around my area. RS had two and they are holding one for me. However, the rep told me I had to purchase a top up card ($10+) along with the phone since I already had a Virgin service. Whatever.:D

Ask them why. That doesn't seem right that you HAVE to buy a top up card. You should have said you don't have a VM account lol

I'll ask when I pick up. I can always use the top up card so don't really mind. Maybe to discourage resellers?

Some places like my store just require an activation, Some require an activation plus first month payment.

It's to discourage resellers and people who clone ESN numbers.

It does not mess up the phone. The phone functions perfectly. We just suspect it may cause a minor activation problem. I suspect that the major problem occurs when the Retailer attempts to set up the phone. Unless the activation is immediately successful, I think the VM system sees the phone as active on your account but the phone itself is not active and does not do a proper handshake with the network. Doing a factory reset seems to place the phone back in a state where it can accept the information that the network is trying to push to the phone. Has not worked for everyone.

Well I let them activate my phone and everything *seemed to go smoothly. I could text immediately so that's a plus. This phone is awesome though! I am coming from a Droid 3, which isn't a low end android phone, but I think this phone blows it out of the water. At first I was skeptical about the 3d, but actually seeing it is awesome! I think I am experiencing the problem where the phone doesn't want to switch towers however. My phone went to no service almost as soon as I walked in my door. It's gonna be sitting for the rest of the day most likely, so hopefully itll all get sorted out.
