Root Picture download issues

Tenkaiser

Lurker
I'm having as similar problem, and rather than create a new thread I thought i'd just post in this one.

Pictures I receive through SMS won't download no matter how small they are and I have the 'enable data' thing checked in the mobile networks area of settings. Not sure what else could be going on here.

I am running a rooted android HTC Evo 4G with Cyanogenmod 7 installed. Can anyone help?

Hey all, i've got a rooted HTC Evo 4G running Cyanogenmod 7 and I can't download pictures I receive from text message. The phone while try to download for a few moments and then tell me the process is a failure.

Not sure what could be causing it or how I can fix this. Can anyone help?

Welcome to Android Forums TenKaiser!
I hope you find all the help you need and have fun with while you are here.
I am not too familiar with your ROM and set up. It sounds like you have data enabled, and assume you have a good data connection. Have you checked to make sure your ROM and apps are updated as well? And are you using the built in SMS app or something else? Sorry for all the questions, hoping we can help you find a good solution.
Good luck!

Hello Tenkaiser. Thank you for first posting in an existing thread about a similar issue. I had to move your post though because it was in a device area that would not get attention from those with experience with the rooted EVO.

Let's see how things go here in the EVO All Things Root area. ;)

Hi Ryan, thank you for the welcome! I will try to answer your question to the best of my ability.

I have the 'Data Enabled' option checked in the mobile networking section of my phone's settings. I am currently on the most recent stable version of the ROM for my phone. I am using the original SMS app, I don't know how to tell if it's been updated or not. I tried using a different one (handcent) but had the same problem.

I also tried downloading messages on both the sprint network and wi-fi connection but it didn't seem to make a difference. Let me know if there's any further info I could provide that would be of use.

why will it not download? do you get an error? if so what does it say?

also try what mikem0269 suggested.

I tried clearing both caches and it did not work. The message always appears as 'Subject: <New Message>' on my phone and when I press the download button it simply says 'Download of message New Message from <contact> was not successful'.

The Save MMS app worked to an extent, not all of the pictures show up. Some of these are only 2 KB so I think they are not actually pictures but longer text messages that my phone isn't taking for some reason (This would kind of make sense since my phone also fails to send texts that are more than 3-4 lines long which is another problem i've been having).

Are these messages being sent from an IPhone? Or is it any phone that sends to you isn't downloading? As suggested by G2435 try GO SMS. It's a better app than the stock messenger app.

I've had this problem before. Somehow, our APNs get messed up. APN, Access Point Name, is a setting on your mobile phone that identifies an external network your phone can access for data. I found a fix a long time ago, but it wasn't very reliable. GO SMS claims to have a database of all APNs and matches them up with the sender and your phone. Definately the way to go.

Another HUGE feature of GO SMS is the ability to reply to the group when you recieve a group text. Handcent can do it too, but I prefer GO.
