Picture mail size?

anyone know how to change the compression of the picture mail? It takes an 8 megapixel picture and reduces it down to 17 kb.

well, the compression changes on the type of phone and network. I believe the limit is 600K in size however some devices have a hardware limit of 300K.

unfortunately i can't see any logical reason to change the compression method since the file is going to be small anyway.

Yea, ive seen in the settings you can change the limit of your mms which ive set to max at 2mb. But that doesnt stop it from compressing the pictures waaaay to much.

Take the picture from the message screen. I have noticed it will only shrink it to 80k or so. That is on the incredible though.

This message is being sent from my Incredible not using Tapatalk!

Somekid!

I tried to attach a 96k image I found on the net to a text and it compressed it to this shitty tiny blurry 16k blob. The forced compression on this phone is not amusing. It seems like a form of malware introduced by sprint to reduce data usage.

Has anyone discovered a fix for the ridiculous compression used for picture mail? I know there are options such as sending your pics via email but I could really use a quick fix for personal reasons but more importantly for business.

I get the need to make the pics smaller for the network but a 1 meg pic shouldn't be 12k!

BTW, I'm still on 2.1 and assume that the problem still exist with 2.2?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Honestly it's my only real complaint about Android/Evo. We use pics so much throughout the day that I would actually pay someone to fix the issue if that was possible. I've seen a lot of threads on the net about this topic so it seems to be something many people would like to see addressed.

If the pictures you are sending - are being taken with your phone, you can hit the settings, and turn down the quality a few times maybe a notch at a time and see at what res it will be small enough. When I try to send pics via sms and it says, resize blah blah, it still lets me just hit send. Hope this helps.

*Meant before you take the pictures, obviously lol

Not sure what the minimum size is, but when I tried to send uncompressed pics via Handcent, I got an error stating the recipient didn't get the pic because of size limitations.
