Picture Messaging with Data Off

I understand I need my data to be turned on to receive picture messaging, but I always have it off since I'm on the 200 mb plan and I only turn it on when I need it (since my phone randomly uses data).

I've received picture messages and it just sits on "downloading" even when I turn back data on. Is there a way to see these messages? Or do I need to ask my friend to re-send them?

turn off wifi and it may work. ive never had a problem downloading them and i leave my data off 99% of the time

Go into messaging settings and turn off auto-retrieve.
