Help Pictures for Contacts

Is it possible to assign a display picture instead of the silhouette of the head for your contacts? I created a gmail account a few years ago for the hell of it, and only added a couple people because I never used it, and when I used that gmail account for the Captivate, one of the contacts had a cartoon bear for the display picture. But I can't seem to find out how to assign a picture for any of my regular contacts. Is it possible?

There are at least 2 ways that I know of.

Open your contact and select the settings button and then select edit. You should see a plus sign on the contact silhouette. Select the silhouette and go from there.

or

Open the gallery and then select a picture. Select menu and then more..."Set as".

When you pick a picture through Contacts, it takes you to your gallery, lets you pick a picture, and then lets you crop the person or icon out of the picture. I like this because then you don't have to manually resize the pictures yourself and you can use the same picture for several people and pick their faces out of it.

If you put them in your contact list under your Google account, they are saved to your Google account contact too and the pictures remain even if you wipe your phone and resync your contacts from your Google account.

So I can't figure out how to do it through contacts like you guys suggested? I am not getting the plus sign on the head silhouette.

I did try before coming back to see your response that I can just go straight to Gallery, then choose a picture, Menu/More/Set as/Contact Icon. It is a little more time consuming that way though, because I thought I would have a list of my contacts to just set their pics. However, the list is empty? So I have to create the contacts all over again. Before I upgraded to Froyo, you had the option to make a contact either on SIM/or not. Now, when I make a new contact, the screen you enter the info on is different, and I do not have that option, so that may have something to do with it. Oh well, guess I'll have to do it the long way... haha. Thanks for chiming in though guys.

When you open up a contact, the picture won't have a plus sign until you open the menu and select Edit.

Yeah that doesn't occur when I try it. I think gdfella99 is right that I need the contact saved to the phone as opposed to the sim, which all of mine are not. But, the long way works anyways. Thanks though.

I think there are little flaws in the "contacts" portion of the 2.1 OS. I can't get individual ringtones on my contacts. The option just doesn't exist in my phone. I'm hoping the 2.2 release will fix that problem.
