Help Pictures misteriously deleted!

Just an FYI but when you download apps from the market place they tell you before you install they will/have ability to delete SD files! Not sure the full in and outs of that process but it does say it so that could be a possibility.

Yeah, I agree. My SD card is good, my system is stable.... that only leaves an APK. (Aside from user error which could still be a factor as for myself.

I discovered I lost about 2 gigs worth of photos and MP3's. I am almost a hundred percent positive it was an app. Seems like there would be a trail.

Anyone know the name of a log I could look at in my directory that would describe this event? It seems like 2 gigs worth of data being uploaded or erased would have some snail trail somewhere in my device.

I went into my phone's gallery earlier today and noticed all of the pictures in the "Camera pictures" folder were gone with the exception of one picture of my son that I took last night. Took the sd card out and put it into the laptop and still couldn't find the missing pictures (about 300 of them). Has this happened to anyone else and, if so, were you ever able to get them back?

Any luck?

I lost all my photos and music as well. Trying to find a log somewhere in my device of the event. I think an APK is th culprit.

I went in and found all my music and pictures after they were mysteriously gone. They were in another DCIM folder. Another Sd EXT folder was made and there they were.

However, I kept getting these gray pictures and duplicates. I found a quick solution for that. The phone later reverted to reproducing these gray pictures without thumbnails.

The stock gallery and music player for my motorola droid 3 referenced only certain folders for music and pic. The app would not search for other folders. I could not change it.

I recovered the music by downloading another MP3 player app Maple. The maple app has a feature to search the phone for all the MP3 files. Once I played one song thru Maple... the stock player now located all the other MP3's.

For the pictures I imagine you could use a gallery download and do the same thing to find all your pictures.

You could also pair up your phone with your computer. Then, in your windows search bar search the phone and the SD card for file types. You will star.file ending. Example *.jpeg for that picture type. There are several picture file formats. That would be one of the most used. The search should pull out every file of that type.

I found all my pictures and videos this way.

For some reason the way the gallery and the music player referenced files changed. I have no idea why. There are these family apps that are separating and doing different things. The Google family, The Verizon family. I either attribute the changes to these apps or another app I downloaded. The support and updates for older phones is behind the curve. So, if you are running an older android version I would expect some bumps every now and then.

If your files were deleted and you want to recover them. STOP saving and erasing data on your phone. I used a cheap app from HEXAMOB for file recovery. It isnt 100% and you may find better out there but you can recover some of your files if they are important to you. The more you write and erase from your phone tho the more you lose. So, get to it quickly if that is the case.

Hope this helps.

I used File Explorer and all of my pictures and videos were in the Lost.Dir folder. Now, I have to figure out how to convert them back fo video and image files

I changed the file extensions on some of mine back to jpeg on some of them.

I downloaded and app that did this. It made it where only the app could reference the files.

There is a UNIX utility that you can manage archive files, and a bunch of other file compressions like zip.

I have been having the same problem it started with my S4 and it is still happening with my new S5 and its a nightmare because these are photos that are important and when I hook up the S5 to my computer now it wants to convert what ever I transfer to or from the phone into a different file extension samsung needs to step up and fix this problem now...

When I woke up this morning I had all of my photo albums still in my phone. Nothing out of the ordinary. I went to take a video of my cat and when I went to rewatch it nothing was there. The video was gone, all of the photos in the album were gone and the album itself was gone and I didn't do a single thing to cause it. When one goes to delete a single photo or multiple photos there are several steps the phone makes you take before finalizing the delete just for absolute reassurance. I didn't do anything that would even remotely be close to deleting anything and than BOOM the album just vanishes?! I don't know if I had any pics in it that were important but it still has me upset knowing that all of my own personal things can be deleted in seconds without my approval.

I have a Droid Razr M and haven't found any forums online specifically on issues for this happening.

I used EaseUS data Recovery Wizard its free to download and free to save your pictures as long as its under 2GB ( they give you 1GB to start and then if you share it to twitter or facebook or something they give you an extra GB) I suggest running the deep scan and then saving because it finds a lot more the second time around
