Pipe Character (|)

Hi, I have a Android 1.5 orange branded Hero and I often need to use the | pipe character. There is a broken pipe button but this produces a different character. I currently copy&paste it each time from a draft text after copying&pasting it from wikipedia but this is a pretty long winded route since I use it in passwords and in my SSH client.
Does anybody have any solutions to this? Is it likely to be fixed in 2.1?

Have you tried an alternative keyboard?

I use Swype, and it has the pipe key above the 4 on the numeric pad (press 'SYM' on the main keypad).

I would recommend Swype over the standard keyboard anyway, it is so much faster!

Ah ok, somebody else recently recommended swype to me so I'll give it a look, thanks
