Help play music through USB

My car has factory I Pod & USB connectors to play music.
But when I connect Droid X to the USB port, my car stereo will not play any music. Anyone know how to fix it.

Have you tried the different USB mode settings? When plugged in, the usb icon should show in notifications. Hit the notifications and hit the USB mount under there. Change it to one of the other settings and see which one your car recognizes. If none, not sure what to do from there.
 
its really confusing, im using a clarion stereo and i was able to get music to play but no shuffle mode and make sure everything in one folder, now if i only can get slacker to play via usb that would be real great
 
My girls civic has a USB jack, with my storm it was kinda tricky to get the car to recognize the mass storage but with the X its no problem. I know you have a after market radio but make sure USB is set on mass storage, then either turn the radio off or switch sources, example, FM,CD ect. then back to USB or AUX (whatever clarion calls it). AND the X has to be unlocked for this to work. Once I learned the procedure it works every time, even resumes from what song you were listening to, as long as you don't unplug the USB.

To get anything else to play besides MP3/WMA or whatever format your radio will decode on your SDcard, like Slacker, Pandora, you will have to NOT use the USB and use an analog signal minijack-minijack, most new radios have a 3.5mm input they call "AUX" - but you would have to control it from your phone verses if you listen to music off your SDcard you control it through the car radio, folders, subfolders, ect. - I prefer it that way, just plug and play, put the phone away, and it charges at the same time too.

i have an aux port also but i prefer usb because i dont have to look at the phone and just control everything via head unit. i might just end up getting the g2 for slacker, i dont like the limited selection of local radio
 
Just to clarify, the Droid X does not output audio via USB. Setting the Droid X to use USB mass storage mode allows your car's audio system to read the music files stored on the micro SD card and play them, just as if you plugged in a USB thumb drive containing music. Like labeledbass said, if you want the Droid X to output music, you'll have to do it through the 3.5mm audio jack (or perhaps microHDMI, haven't tried that yet).

Well there is several options, my moms ride like many sync with bluetooth, digital just like the USB controlled by the cars audio unit, maybe some new head units have bluetooth, I'm behind the times a bit on aftermarket ones but HDMI is also digital, you could also go with a RF transmitter, I have a moto one thats wireless , uses bluetooth via radio hz
 
My nissan has usb, aux and bluetooth. I have tried to play music from my DX via the usb and the head unit shows on the display to "check device". Not really sure what that means? Any suggestions?

On a related note, how would you be able to play music via bluetooth? I would choose that as my backup just in case there is no solution for the usb since the quality from the AUX is terrible
 
Playing music via BT is easy.

Your car stereo should have a "pairing mode" where you can trigger it to enter in a mode where it's willing to accept a BT pairing. Usually it's holding down the BT button or something and for 5-10 seconds or so, the stereo will accept pairing. Once you start that mode, you can go into the phone, scan for new BT devices, and connect to the stereo.

After that, it's all automatic. You'll be paired for music and can just hit play.
 
I never even thought to try it. I do you end up using the Windows media Sync option or the PC mode option?
