I've not recommended this in the past. But I've actually downloaded a few apps and games from 1Mobile in the last couple of days. Because Play's frequent "This app is not available in your country." and "This app is not compatible with your device." nonsense was really starting to annoy me. :(

Using a Chinese app store in China....oh well. :D I often use SlideMe and GetJar as well. :)
 
That is currently my only reason to use 1Mobile. Many other apps stores don't have the apps I want, such as on cheap tablets, or to work around the often-incorrect 'not compatible' error from Play.

@Divinebovine, Nook Manager didn't come with whatever ROM I rooted my device with. Remember it was missing some important tools, such as the app to reprogram the side buttons and a file browser, among many. Android Market was already installed on first boot, along with Gmail and YouTube. Gmail let me add my Google account to the thing, but both Android Market and YouTube give instant connection errors when launched. The documentation said to use YouTube to add the account, but since it did not work, I used gmail, which did work. Remember my Nook is some later generation also as none of the TouchNooter tools seemed compatible and always soft-bricked the device

You might want to consider reverting to a backup (I hope you have one), updating to the latest firmware, and using NookManager. It only works with the latest versions of firmware. Then you can get Market to work.

So far I've found it's always been incorrect, and extremely frustrating. Everything I've installed that Play insists is "not compatible" with a Samsung, has always worked.
 
The compatibility/incompatibility issues are from the devs end, not Google. If you find an app listed as incompatible but works on your device after sideloading, and vice versa drop the author an email to let them know. :D

Problem. Is when the developer is EA games and NBA Jam is listed as not compatible with the Nexus 10 (lolwut?)

You aren't going to get the apk, and Play refuses to allow you to download it anyway, and, being a paid app, 1Mobile isn't going to come to the rescue either.

Android Market and early incarnations of the Play Store didn't have that compatibility checker, so why they added it when it is 99.999% incorrect is beyond me.

I think it is Google myself. I've only just been noticing it since the last major change to Play, which brought along a few other issues like nothing was installing periodically, can't connect to server, although they seem to have fixed that now.

Was talking to few expat friends and Android users that I know in the PRC. 1Mobile has become quite a good asset for us, given the country restrictions and app incompatibility problems and features that Google seems to be having now. And 1Mobile won't help with paid apps, because they don't have them AFAIK.

I definitely think that Google is trying to move into China, but there's a few probs that they have to sort yet.

But it's early days yet for Google with Android in the PRC, potentially the world's largest Android market for them.
 
That is my point. I paid for NBA Jam when I installed to my GS3 but it would play better on a tablet. The Nexus 10 is the Google Flagship. Their most powerful. And the game is listed not compatible. Can't sideload the apk because 1) paid apps don't show in 1Mobile, and 2) when apps are listed as 'not compatible' you can't download at all. And the dev isn't an individual who would be happy to send the apk via email so I'm sunk. I truly hate the Play Store. I especially despise the new UI which is change for the sake of change and so totally ripping Windows 8's metro look while also copying the failed WebOS at the same time. Why not fix the issues from day one vs. Form over function? If modern ui ends up a child's plaything I'll use something else. Modern would be 3-D not Fisher Price.
 
Can it be backed up by an app manager? ES File Explorer's app manager can back up apps to SD, among others.

Also, what if you app2sd it? You should be able to nab the .apk from the SD card.
 
It is moot now, I just gone and done it--rooted and flashed a ROM to my GS3 and waiting for it to restore (200+ apps might take 24 hours :p )and then I'll nab the apk.
