Help players won't find music on sd card

Install the Xposed Media Scanner Optimizer (needs root). Push "Delete Media Store Contents". Reboot. Check "Media Types". Run "Trigger MediaScanner". And your player - even MusiXmatch - can play all of your music again. I've tried EVERYTHING and this is the only solution that works every time.

sorry if I'm duplicating threads.. I've transfered music onto my sd card and none of the players will locate it. the music is on the card I can go into my files and play it individually. I'm using a San disk 32gb card in a non rooted phone
I had this problem then I named the folder sounds instead of music an it worked instantly

I use Double Twist for my media. The only way I can get the stock Samsung player to see the music on my SD card is to move all music to a top line music folder. Else can see the music:eek:

I tried everything in this thread and nothing worked until your post! Thank you

This might sound silly, but a lot of people I know always overlook these simple steps.
On your main screen, go to "Apps".
Then go to "My Files".
Press the menu button and go to "Settings".
There you will see a list named "Select directories".
Find "Set music directory".
Set your external sd card as the default.
Rescan your music files and the default samsung music app will be able to recognize/play the songs saved on your sd.

I had this problem on my phone (not a Samsung) running Android KitKat, and I found this thread while searching for a solution. Unfortunately, the advice posted here didn't work for me.

The solution for me was to name the music directory on the SD card anything other than "Music" because it seems on some devices if there is an internal Music directory and an external Music directory, the players will prefer the internal Music directory and ignore the external Music directory. Renaming the external directory to "My Music" solved the problem for me.

Thanks a bunch! I never would have figured that out and I got my son a tablet for Christmas. He's only 3 so I had to download a a kid's music player from the app store. Apparently there is only one...."Kid's Music Player." After I had to boot my phone in to safe mode (for unrelated reasons - I play with macros a little too much apparently) it stopped finding my music. It was there, I could see it and when I moved it to internal storage it played but when I moved it back it was gone again. A lot of people were having this problem and leaving bad reviews for the app thinking it was bad programming. I forwarded the info to the developer of the app so they can help negate some of the negative feedback. My son will have an awesome Christmas and be able to use his new headphones, too. Thanks again!

I just signed up to this forum to say thank you to this Member (StrikeWun), as his detailed explanation/reply helped me to resolve my Music/Video Player Issues, which I had in my Android Phone.

The Problem started not from the beginning, but after I changed the mSD to a Larger Volume (16 GB to 64 GB). Initially, I thought the Card Quality (Data Transition Rate) was the reason as all other apps (around 350) were running flawlessly with mSD Upgrade.

I changed the mSD Card Twice (with SanDisk Class 10 64 GB) to resolve the issue which yielded no result.

As the third Replacement, I used a Samsung mSD 64 GB, yet I had no luck with My Samsung Video and Audio Players in My Note II.

Once I followed your instructions, I could resolve my issue, and here is My Big Thank You for your Valuable Post. May God Bless You!

Thank you!

Don't know if this issue has been resolved or not but I was having the same problem and solved it

I found this thread by way of Google, so hopefully I can help someone that was having the same problem as me

Since I'm new, I can't post any screenshots or links, so I'll try to be descriptive, but its kinda the same method from crabman post

Samsung Galaxy s3 T-Mobile

So, this is how I came about the problem. I downloaded a playlist backup app that also make a .nomedia file along with a playlist backup in whatever folder its in. I wanted my playlist backed up on the root of my external SD card, but I didn't know nothing of the .nomedia file at the time.

The app put a .nomedia file on the root of my extSD card :(

Don't bother trying to find the file with the stock file browser because its hidden. You'll need something like Root Explorer to find it.

These are the steps I took

>Using Root Explorer, find the .nomedia file on the root of your extSDCard and delete it

>Go to your settings and open up the application manager.
>>>Force Stop and Clear Data from two apps, Music Hub and Music Player

>Unmount and Mount your extSdCard

>Restart your phone

Oh, I also pulled the SDCard, but I don't think it was necessary. I hope this helps someone out that was having the same problem as me.

I found a solution for my phone. I have a LG Leon. I used to be able to play the exact same files on my SD card before. One day there was only 2 songs in the stock music player. My file manager could see them, and if I clicked on them from there, the Music app would play it fine, but the Music library didn’t recognize them. I looked for those .nomedia files, but there weren’t any in the folder I keep my music. There was one, in a completely different folder, on the internal memory. I deleted it, but that didn’t help. I tried the rescan SD card app but that didn’t help either. I removed my SD card because I was afraid to erase my chip. Then I went to my phone SETTINGS / GENERAL tab / APPS / ALL / MEDIA STORAGE / CLEAR CACHE / CLEAR DATA. I powered off my phone and put my SD card back. Then I restarted my phone and the stock Music app recognized them again!

Awesome. The no media file was the problem for me, I got it up and running and now my kiddo can listen to kidz bop (its better than listening to old macdonald and twinkle twinkle little star - compromise). I would never have thought of clearing the media storage cache and data. I am now having problem with playlists that appear to be empty and I keep having to remake them which is very frustrating. Do you think that might help with my new problem? I always have several problems but I just try to consider it a learning experience...

I also didn't see my music after I downloaded quite a collection through USB.

Rebooting my phone did the trick, but later I saw that MixZing has a menu option""Scan Media". I assume this would have found my music too.

Solved:
External SD card on LG V20. I had podcast files in "Podcasts" and the built-in music player refused to see those files.
I copied the files to PC desktop. I copied the files to phone SD card in folder "Music". The files appeared in the music player.
