Hiya everyone I have brought a samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1.and I was wondering if I can buy something to connect to the internet without using wifi.there is not a slot to put a dongle. So is there something I can buy.the reason is I want to take on hoilday and they havent got wifi.thanks everyone.

That depends, is there a sim-slot in your device? (the 3G version).

I don't know any other possibilities than this.

Presumably, if the OP has an Android phone they could use it to create a WiFi hotspot and connect the tablet to that ..

It could potentially be a very expensive option, though - might be worth checking data roaming costs / offers first

The other alternative is to get a mifi device and make sure it's unlocked, then you can pop any data sim card into it wherever you travel. I have one as all our tablets are wifi only and i don't want to tether to my phone as I don't want to use all my data up. Got mine on eBay and it's amazing.

Hiya mine is not 3g there only a slot for memory card.idont understand what a mifi is how do these work .sorry not up to date on technology thanks

Hiya, a mifi is a mobile wifi device. You basically put a data sim card in it, switch it on and then search for its signal using the wifi bit of your tablet. Does that make sense? A mifi device is about the size of a bar of soap that you can just pop in your pocket and connect to it on the go. Have a look at the Huawei E586, it's the one I have and you can connect up to 5 devices to it at once

No problem and if you need any more help with it please just ask. I love my mifi and it saved me money as I didn't need to get the 3g versions of any tablet in our house :D

You can connect to the net by tethering from your phone. So your phone connects to the net through mobile networks (sim card) and your tablet connects via tethering.

I did that last summer on vacations as i had no wifi either. i did that with my android smartphone (an htc desire x at that time) and my ipad (wifi only).

You can do the same!

That is also good advice. However, if you have a few devices on the go the mifi is a better option, also unless you have unlimited data you can soon rack up a huge bill for your phone data. I only have 1.5gb a month whereas my mifi I can put and amount on.
You've now had lots of different advice on here, all of it good. The choice is yours (sounds like a game show doesn't it lol)

lol!

mifi is a great device and much cheaper than bying a new smartphones that supports tethering.

But if he already has such a smartphone, he can use it!

Looking for something, myself, for when I'm in an area my carrier isn't supporting well. :sly:
