i personally like to flash kernels manually. you do this by placing the boot image in the same folder with your adb and fastboot(the same folder that you used to unlock).
place your phone in fastboot. easiest way is to enable usb debugging, and switch to the directory with adb/fastboot and type
adb reboot bootloader but you also can chose "fastboot" from your hboot menu after powering on into hboot(vol down/power)
when you see the white screen with colored letters, you can use the command
fastboot flash boot <imagename>.img
for example,
fastboot flash boot boot-clean-rom.img
you can then select bootloader on your phone, then select recovery, then flash the rom in recovery.
the steps i take when flashing or restoring a backup:
-take the boot image provided,or pull it from the rom if i have to,and put it in the file with adb fastboot
-open a cmd window and chage to adb directory
-enable usb debugging,plug in phone
-
adb devices (should show your serial number)
-
adb reboot bootloader (should boot your phone to the white screen. can take a couple minutes)
-
fastboot flash boot <imagename>.img
-select bootloader on phone
-select recovery on phone(you can unlug from the pc now, if you wish)
-when recovery loads, use the menus to wipe data/factory reset. wipe cache. wipe dalvik cache. some rom devs will also instruct you to format or wipe /system
-flash your new rom
-reboot
-collect underpants
-???
-profits
as to wether or not you can flash over the new version depends on a lot of factors. scott himself prolly is a good start, see if he recomends a full wipe with each update.
if there is no mention in the thread about doing a full wipe when flashing over a previous version, you can try flashing it over. just be aware that sometimes it "updates" and works out,and sometimes the code is enff different that it doesnt. you *may* need to go back and do a FULL wipe, fresh install if you have small bugs, or issues like force closes. its very important to not point fingers at rom developers and accuse their roms of having bugs that mau have been caused by the flash over. they work hard for us and dont deserve that agravation
also be aware, that some roms will wipe data for you automatically(so you cant flash over and report false bugs

) so always make a nandroid of a good working rom before flashing something else.
last and not least, seems like alot of rezound devs have set up their roms to deposit a PH98IMG file on your sd card to install the kernel without having to use fastboot, and will even boot you automatically to bootloader after the rom install finishes. this is an acceptable way to do it,i just personally dont like to mess with PxxxIMG files on my sd card unless i have to.
hope that helps
