Ok, i installed clockworkmod recovery, the text was blue
i inserted my sd card into my computer (a new 2gb one) and put miui on it, the new version.
put the sd card into my phone and booted into clockworkmod recovery holding up and down volume and power
once it came up i formatted all the things i needed to
then i go to install the miui zip and it doesn't have the full version number on it
i press the menu button to select it and install it and it pops up with two options
one saying system/ and the other i cannot remember.
either way, nowhere was the word "install" to be found.

now I'm bricked. completely. PLEASE HELP ME!:confused::eek:

did you unzip it onto th sd card?

if so don't, leave it zipped on the sd card

look I'm a noob... i don't know if i unzipped it...

unzipped on my phone or when it was on the computer? be simple with me here

Does it have the .zip file extension? Basically you download the file and don't do anything to it but put it on your sdcard and flash it...

First of all your not bricked. You just have a formatted phone with no software on it. This is very different from bricked(bricked is having a unrecoverable mess up on a phone rendering it a "brick"). What you did is unzipped the miui zip on the sdcard. Take the sdcard out of the phone and put it into your computer. Place the miui zip(without unzipping or anything) onto the sdcard in the base directory. Get bacck into recovery and choose install zip, then choose the miui zip. FLash it and there ya go.

the file on the sd card needs to be

miuiandroid_Triumph-1.11.4-110911-3.zip

not
miuiandroid_Triumph-1/

it needs to be the zip file itself
it sounds like it was unzipped

thank you both.
I'm trying to re-download the zip onto my computer then onto my sd then to phone...
i hope this works

ok I'm on a mac....
once its downloaded it turns into a folder...
should i "compress" the folder into a zip without touching anything else and try that?

don't know Mac's
did it uncompress it or just make it a zipped folder
sorry now I'm the noob
if it uncompressed it automatically then yes compress it back into a zip file

idk, it opened it up and i could see the same thing that i saw from my phone, all the folders and stuff. now i zipped it back up I'm going to see if it works

it let me try to install it...
ten it said couldn't mount... blah blah blah /command,/log,/last_log
and couldn't open... blah blah blah /log, and /last_log

-- installing /sdcard/miuiandoid_Triumph-1.zip
finding update package...
opening update package...
installing update...
installation aborted.

thats it...

Regardless of mac or pc you can do this.

When you download the file you ahould be given two choices to save the file or open the file. YOU WANT TO SAVE THE FILE! It will not unzip it that way. Just place the .zip on the sdcard and install. Do not unzip then rezip unless ypu know what you are doing.

My PC is not a POS by the way, asking for help with something and possibly annoying the people wanting to help (by saying a PC is crap) might yield bad results. You are entitled to your feelings, but that is a very naive statement.

I would try it on a pc and remove any of the miui files on the card first to avoid any confusion. Your computer is most likly doing something funny with the file. Steve Jobs is probly looking down and laughing his ass off, lol. Also you shuld just be able to still restore your backup if one was made as directed in the directions untill you get to an actual computer. I would also suggest staying away from the mac vs PC argument around developers. You won't find many mac fans in that community.

IIRC, if you're using Safari on your Mac to download, it auto-unzips the zip files--just like you're seeing. There might be a setting to stop that, but I don't know where it would be off-hand since I don't have a Mac.

Try using Firefox on your mac. I think that browser doesn't auto unzip.

I didn't want my reaction to the comment to get into a pc/mac/linux thing. They are all valuable and all do things well. I just wanted to recommend that bashing what someone else might prefer might put those people off from helping out. Hopefully all of us here are above that. Everyone can use/buy/prefer what they want. Just be respectful of other people's choices too.

On the note of the original topic. Definitely try a different browser that won't unzip the file automatically. That should fix your issue.

Google chrome stops it on a mac

did you at least run a back up odd your stock rom before you tried to install Miui? If so re- install it and download it from your stock browser, then you won't have to worry about it at all. it will be in your download folder.

Just used a pc and I could unzip it on my phone. Miui is pretty near. Don't like how there's not a legitimate app drawer

try cm7 then although miui is very customizable if you start playing around with it, some just prefer it over cm7. fresh miui is very iphone-ish in looks which some also prefer, if you don't like that, and dont want to spend a lot of time customizing it, then cm7 might be a better choice. they are both cm7 based roms and both impro ve the performance of this phone

and i don't like how i can't hang up using the power button... come on, that was even on stock..
does cm7 have that option?
