Help PLEASE HELP! creating playlists

I beg of you, talk to me like your idiot child if you must, but PLEASE help me to create playlists for my collection of music.

As my player I'm using MIXzing, which is a great app.

Ideally, for size and readability, I'd like to create a file on my computer and load it to my phone. Is that doable? The app will create playlists for me by my "liking" a song or something...I can't figure that out either but that doesn't seem practical for me. I'd have to spend days listening and liking or whatever I'd have to do. And frankly, I'd like something easier than that. I have different genres of music. I have albums and individual mp3s of songs without albums. I have so much music, it's nearly impossible to sort through it as one big list. and there are times I want to hear certain music only.

I can do this on a ipod. With this outrageously excellent phone...I haven't been able to do it with any success. I do not want my music to go anywhere else, I don't want to upload to google. I don't want the data issues. I don't want to deal with Google any more than I must, frankly. I just want to create a few playlists. Then I'll be a happy woman.

HELP!

Go to any song in the mixzing player....open a genre for example.... and while on the list of songs, long press any song. A list of options will pop up including "add to playlist". Select "add to playlist". It will then give you a choice of playlists, though if it is the first time the only choice will be "new list". Select "new list". You will then be asked to name the new list. Go back to your music and find another song to add to this list. Long press it and choose add to playlist. You will then be given the choice to select "new list" or whatever playlist you just created.

That's the manual way to create playlists on the phone. I'm not sure about creating offline playlists and uploading them. You'd have to see what format Mixzing uses and then use an offline music manager to create that format playlist and see if it works. I've never tried it so I don't know.

O thank you. I'm hoping to get the offline/computer instructions but this is great and I'm going to try it right now! Again, many thanks.

OK...the problem I'm encountering is this is a long process...two/three steps, song by song by song. I do appreciate this. ANd setting this up in the phone is very limited. I'm going to go into the phone through my computer and see if I can't add to the list manually, since I may have an actual accessable file to build on/copy/recreate

There has to be a way of doing this faster. But I appreciate your advice. It's a starting point (and it may turn out to be the only way to do it, period, which I think is a little sad, for such advanced devices.)

I found this site on which someone from Mixzing claims...

If you export your playlists as either M3U, PLS, or WPL files and put the playlist files along with your music on the SD card then the Android media scanner should import the playlists correctly.

If that is the case (and I don't use mixzing anymore so I can't test it out), you should be able to use a program like mediamonkey (or any music manager) to create a playlist (I think Android likes m3u best) .... and then copy that playlist to your phone's 'SD card'.

Can't hurt to try! And using a program on your PC to create playlists is WAAAAY faster.... its just drag and drop.

Thank you Tim. I'm going to give that a shot. My husband has a Charge and he too is trying to figure a way to create playlists quickly. So we're going to do it this weekend, knock ourselves out trying to create playlists for ourselves. He uses WINAMP for his music program.

If I might ask, what are you using as a music program and does it offer a quick means of creating a playlist. I like Mixzing but I'm not married to it. I think it's a great program but this business of building a playlist should be simpler. I've written to them as well, so with all this typing and kvetching and such, we should come up with something! Thank you.

Every answer is getting me closer to my goal. :)

Best to you! and again many thanks.

Typically this is for the default player so YMMMV.

To create a Playlist:

  1. When viewing a list of songs in the library, touch and hold the first song you want to add to the new playlist.
  2. Touch Add To Playlist
  3. Touch New
  4. Enter the name of the playlist, then touch Save. The new playlist is added to the Playlist library. You can also add the song that is playing in the Playback screen as the first song in a playlist by pressing the physical menu key on the phone, and then touching Add to Playlist or touch Save as Playlist to save all the songs in an album that you're playing as a playlist.

To add a song to a playlist:

  1. While viewing a list of songs in the Library, touch and hold a song to display an options menu.
  2. Touch Add to Playlist.
  3. Touch the name of the playlist to add the song to. You can also add the song that is playing in the Playback screen to a playlist by pressing the physical menu key on the phone, and touching Add to Playlist.

I liked mixzing when I used it, but I've switched over to Google music. With 4G and unlimited data, I don't mind not having all the music on my phone. The 20-30 songs on my current playlist are saved locally on my phone for offline access, but if I want to listen to anything else, I just stream it. Its also nice to be able to buy tracks from my phone or PC and have them there automagically. I use the music.google.com interface to create playlists which also automagically update on my phone. I can then click on the playlist on my phone and have that whole playlist available offline if I want.

For those not on unlimited data, you can change the settings on the app to only download/cache songs when on Wifi and only stream when on Wifi.

To create playlists in winamp, make sure your media library is open (view > media library). On the left panel are a bunch of options including "playlists". Click on that. At the bottom you'll see a button "new". Create a new playlist and name it. You'll see it appear over on the left under playlists. Now you can select "audio" from local media at the top of the left pane and it will appear in the main library pane. Then you can sort by genre, artist, etc and then drag and drop songs from the media library panel onto that playlist on the left panel.

Once you've created a playlist, click on the name in the left panel. At the bottom of the main library panel will be a button "manage playlists". Click on it and choose "export playlist". You can then export that playlist to a location on your PC and then copy it to your phone.
