Root Please Help: Galaxy Note 8 Rooting Failure

Hi,

Firstly, my apologies for posting this in multiple locations. I have been advised by a more experienced member to post this here.

I'm trying to root a new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 GT-N5120 using the guide at:

Root & CWM for Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5100, GT-N5110 & GT-N5120

Odin 3 failed with the following dialog:

<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> CF-Auto-Root-konalte-konaltexx-gtn5120.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Sucessfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..

<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/003> Can't open the serial(COM) port.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Note that the ID Com box shows 0: [COM3]

I suspect that the error is mine - I neglected to turn on USB Debugging.

Is this situation recoverable, or have I bricked my tablet?

John

It shouldn't have done anything with USB Debugging off. Enable it and try again. (If you bricked the tablet you'd know it - the tablet wouldn't be working.)

Hi Rukbat,

The tablet is stuck in download mode ie. Android logo with "Downloading ... Do not turn off target!!" as displayed text and header text indicating that it is in ODIN mode. Therefore I can't actually go in to enable USB Debugging (as there's no icons etc to interact with. In addition pressing the "power" button won't initiate powerdown. So I can't see how to get out of being locked in download mode.
