Will installing a rom on my Evo 4g slow down the phone? if not can you guys tell me some good rom's please. I am a newbie sorry if i am being a pain.

A custom ROM will usually speed things up and make for a better experience. Give Myn's Warm 2.2 a try. Its a sense based ROM. Do u already have your phone rooted?
 
what do you think about myn 2.2? is it same as stock android 2.2? will it drain my battery? will the performance be same or will it make my phone slower? thanks for helping me man appreciate that i am a newbie just got my evo 1 week ago
 
Basically, developers take the stock ROM, then make various modifications to it, repackage it, then release it. These modifications can be anything from system theming, different kernels (usually flashed separately, but not always), various mods for functionality, system tweaks for efficiency, etc. Typically, developers make ROMs to be more efficient, so you're likely to see things speed up some (more on part of a different kernel, though). If you flash myn's you will see a different system theme. It uses the stock kernel by default, though, so if you want a different one, you have to flash it. I'm sure you're probably confused about that, so do worry about it until you flash a ROM first. As for batter life, it should be about the same until you start thinking about kernels and/or setcpu.
 
Before you do that, use myn's for a while with the stock HTC kernel that it comes with. See how performance and battery life are. After a couple days (or a couple charge cycles) consider a different kernel if you're not satisfied (of course, you must account for other issues that may impact battery life/performance, first).
 
1) What is your current software version?
2) What are your current hboot/radio versions?

If you're phone isn't new/you didn't accept the latest OTA update, you'll need to flash the new radios as well.
 
As akazabam mentioned, you may need the latest radio updates. Radios Can be found by going to: Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Information & report what you find.
 
Did you determine you need to flash that? If you did, I tried, and it downloaded for me. It took longer than usual to start, though. How long did you wait?
 
I don't think it automatically starts, make sure you do click:click here to start download. Although, I'm sure you did that. Maybe, make sure you have pop-ups completely enabled in your browser settings/or give the website an exception for pop-ups.
 
Does it just keep saying "processing download" (or whatever the exact message is)? Do you ever get the link that says to click to start download? If you do get that far, is it just not downloading after you click the link?
 
it says "Click here to start download" i click it and says "you download is starting" and refreshes the page and says "processing your download" it keeps like going in a loop. i never get the pop screen wehre it asks if i want to save or open

Are you doing that from your phone or your computer?
 
No, it's just an unnecessary risk to flash radios when you don't need to. If you follow directions, that it's fine. If everything is working fine after the update, then you're fine.
