Root Please Help HTC Evo

one more question i know that the evo has 1gb or internal memory i have 360 mb left. is that normal? i know that the os and built in apps take some memory but is this normal or should i be having more left?

Yes, it's normal. Your 1 GB of internal memory is partitioned into different partitions:

/system - 350 MB
/cache - 160 MB
/data - ~430 MB

No, that doesn't quite add up to 1 GB, but storage capacity is always rounded off (usually up; I wonder why :p). Anyway, you only get to install apps on the /data partition, and that is all you ever see when it comes to installing apps and left over space. 360 MB is actually a good amount of space. So, because it's set up this way, if you remove anything from /system/app (such as bloatware; this isn't necessary on a custom ROM that has it removed), you won't gain any space. Anyway, there is a way to get a little more space back. It involves changing the size of the partitions. I wouldn't recommend bothering with that, though. Unless you install a whole bunch of apps, you're unlikely to use up all that space. If you do, a2sd is a better option. That will basically repoint /data to the sdcard, and move all your apps there.

man you are like androids god lol. thanks man i installed that app and moved all my app to sd card. Do you recommend me removing the built in apps? like blockbuster i will never use it and there are couple more. is there a app to remove those?

I thought you flashed Myn's warm, didn't you? If you did, you shouldn't have any of the bloatware still installed (such as blockbust). If you haven't, and you're still on stock, the easiest and safest thing to do is to freeze such bloatware with titanium backup. You can find a list of safe bloatware to freeze in the Rooting for Dummies guide. You can also rename the apks to with a .bak extension using root explorer. Titanium backup is easier, though. Like I said, though, if you flashed almost any custom ROM, you souldn't have the bloatware anymore.

1) Ah, I see. Well, follow the above instruction, and those found in the Rooting for Dummies guide for removing bloatware. If you'd like to go with the root explorer method, I can give you more explicit instructions. You can also look around for more ROMs if you want something different.

2) Task killers are never a good idea. Android works different that the traditional OS when it comes to application management. If you kill a bunch of apps, they will start backup automatically, and use more processing power/memory than it otherwise would have. Just because certain things run in the background doesn't mean they are using any system resources, really. They are basically suspended. It does this so that apps can start quickly when needed. Now, there is the off chance that an app can go crazy, and not stop correctly, holding wake locks. You can determine if this happens with an app called spare parts. You're basically looking for things called wake locks. It means the apps is keeping your phone awake when it shouldn't. This is not the norm, and does not call for a task killer.
