Help Please help, i cant use this keyboard :(

Thank Me, Im Irish!
Just got dInc, and love it to death. Except the keyboard!

I feel the buttons are slightly small, compared to the Moto Droid.

I also cannot stand the way the numbers and symbols are added on top of letters like that. I much prefer the "123.." button or whatever the DROID had.

I tried to download Better Keyboard, and it apparantly just skins the existing keyboard, not remove the numbers or any other drastic changes. Unless im missing something?

I also tried searching google and market, and cannot find a solution.

Ultimately, i would like to have the same keyboard as the Moto Droid.

Do i have to have phone rooted? I currently do not

Also do i have to be a programmer to do this? I see these basic instructions and they are confusing the heck out of me. Can i not just drag the file in and double click it or something?

1. Downloaded "repackaged-signed.apk" from mega download
2. Renamed to LatinIME.apk
3. Connected phone to adb "adb shell"
4. "su"
5. "mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system"
6. "cp /system/app/LatinIME.apk /sdcard/LatinIME_Old.apk"
7. "cp /sdcard/LatinIME.apk /system/app/LatinIME.apk"
8. "exit"
9. "exit"
10. On phone, Long press on any text box
11. Input Method
12. Select Multi-touch keyboard
13. Touch text box again

The stock Incredible keyboard has that button as well, or you can long press the alpha buttons.
 
Hello i believe i have found my solution.

Smart Keyboard
go into settings and turn off "ALT OVERLAY" or something

working like a charm!! Now if i can just make the keys slightly larger ... lol
 
I'm not the best at giving directions but I'll give it a shot
download Astro File Manager From the Market place
then find the Droid X Keyboard apk
either download straight to your phone or put onto your SD card
open astro file manager and find the keyoard fle
open it and chose package installer
and you should be good to go
