Root PLEASE HELP! KOUMA KERNEL 2.5 wont clear dalvik cache, load, or reset to factory!

Hello!

I flashed my Samsung Galaxy Prevail to KOUMAKERNEL 2.5 and also have CWM on it. I have been periodically going through cycles where every 2-3 weeks, it starts to act up and gets stuck on the Kouma Kernel splash screen. After messing with it and uplugging battery and cord in different combinations, I usually am able to get it working again.

However, yesterday it happened and I have been no able to do shit with my phone. It doesnt get past the splash screen at all. I have tried to wipe dalvik cache and revert to factory and it ends up just freezing when I try to wipe or revert them. I tried to restore in CWM but it says MD5 (or something like that) mismatching. I just want to be able to use my phone!! Please help, and a big thank you in advance to anyone willing to help.

Thx!

Your backups are no longer usable with cwm anymore since something broke the md5 it has on file for the nandroid. Flash a custom ROm such as CTMOd or MegaTron to get your phone booting again. download the zip onto your computer, mount usb in cwm and transfer the zip to your sdcard then flash the zip with cwm. you can do the same for stock ROM just find the zip here.

Perhaps your sdcard is becoming corrupt. Have you tried to perform a factory reset?

Are you able to make a backup? (Not that it will help restore your phone if its stock at the splash screen, but I'd it won't even create a backup that will help confirm that your card is going bad)

A last resort would be using Odin to flash to stock and start over. You will end up losing your app data, but if nothing else works, its better than having no phone at all.

If you end up starting over and these problems reappear you may want to repartition your sdcard (after backing up anything that may still be salvageable if the card is indeed corrupt)

If repartitioning the cars doesn't help and its still unusable, you may have a dead card. It happens. These things aren't made to last forever. :( Hope you can get this figured out

Thank you CHEV and LORD for your help. I truly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help.

LORD: Yes, when I tried to factory reset, the phone goes to the reset progress screen and just freezes. It seems that anytime I do something that involves the SD card, it freezes and will only go away once I remove the battery. Does that confirm a bad SD card?

I am going to try to take care of this tonight, I will be in touch regardless. Thank you you two!!

It doesn't absolutely confirm a bad sdcard, but it definitely suggests that the card is at least corrupt.

Have you tried mounting the card in your computer? (Either via the mount USB option in cwm, or by using a sdreader on your computer) if you can't even view the files then it probably corrupt.

Repartitioning it (which also formats the card) may or may not fix it. But it would be the first step I would take if the files were no longer accesable

Lord,

I did try to mount it via USB cable to my computer and saw no files. Once I saw that, I went to repartition it and was able to get my phone back working. I previously saved a backup through mybackuproot and am going to try to get it back to before.

With the fact that I could not view any files, does that mean my card is corrupt? Is this just going to happen again at some point, if so?

My friend gave me an identical 2gb microsd card for me to try. It was in a different type of phone though, but it IS the same kind. If you have the time to answer this...what would I need to do in order to try to use that card (if I wanted to keep koumakernel as well as CWM).

Thank you so, so much!!

Well koumakernel is installed on the phone, not the card, so to use the new card you would simply have to partition it in cwm (also on the phone not the card) and then set it up the same way you did originally. (Switch to data mode in the koumamod settings)

If repartitioning you card made it usable again, it may continue to work... or it may fail again. So switching to the new card is up to you.

I definitely recommend copying backups you make to the computer in case this happens again so you have this issue again.
