Root Please help me root this X!

so my friend has a droid x that he rooted on 2.1 then did the OTA to 2.2 and lost root. today I used the Visionary app to root another friends and it worked flawlessly, so I tried to give my original friend who lost root an over the phone walk through w/ it and it kept saying he was already rooted. but then super user just kept force closing on him and every other program (the required root access) said they didn't have root permissions. please help me figure out how to finally get this kid rooted.
 
I was hoping there was an easier way since i'm not physically there to help them and they aren't too savvy with computers but I'll see what we can do. thank you.

Have him download a terminal from the market. Open the terminal and type the command "su" if the $ turns into a #, then he's rooted.
 
my guess is that the actual apk is still there and so is everything you need for root it just needs to be deleted and done again
 
so if he has the team black hat app can he download the froyo 2.2 SBF file only and then reboot into recovery and install zip from sdcard?

1 to 10 scale is subjective....for me i'd say it's a 2-3 but for someone not very familiar with computers or phones i'd say its a 7 or 8.

and yes, I'm pretty sure it needs the SDK.

Download the app "visionary" from the market or off of Droid-LIfe. Someone finally made a 2.2 one click root that you can install on your phone and root it. Worked for me when I sbf'd.
