Please help - soft bricked - gingerbread

Hello,

I hope someone can help, as I have been trying to solve this for days!.
I have a one touch 983 running gingerbread. I rooted some time ago using a root package I found online. (Using adb).

I have changed phone, so was just wiping it so I couldgive it to a friend, I deleted old data via usb, then done a factory reset and wiped SD card. I am guessing I messed up here and deleted everything.

Ever since then it loads the startup screen but then just hangs. Sometimes it gets stuck on the android logo, other times the Alcatel logo. If I hold the volume up key and power button I get a screen with a message "all data will be lost, continue?" (but no other messages). If I select yes it shows the android unboxing animation, but then just gets stuck again.

Strangely it turns itself on randomly a few times a day (when not connected to anything) and just displays the green android).

When I connect it to my laptop it says usb device not recognized. It shows a removable drive, but no files show up, and any-time I try to copy files it says they cannot be found. When I load adb via CMD and try fastboot flash it says waiting for device. I have the stock rom, I have the SDK installed and drivers,

I may be missing something very simple, can anyone please give me simple steps to restore the phone to default? (considering I cannot see the device in windows and only get the above mentioned recovery screen). or shall I just consider it a paperweight :).

Thank you

Hello,

Just to update, I removed the SD card and all my files are still on the card (I had link2sd and other superuser settings setup).

So I just need to get the stock rom onto the phone, I have the rom images (system, recovery, boot). Shall I format the SD card and try and install the rom from there? if so, do I need to copy any other files over to the sd card (other than the system, recovery and boot images). if so which ones?

And how would I initiate the install from SD card (as the phone does not show up as I have no doubt messed up the default software somehow).

Thanks

Have you tried a unbrick for your device. This device is known for problems . but you said CDMA . can I ask where are you located

I have formatted the SD card and placed the stock rom image files on the drive, and have now returned the SD card to the phone, adb / cmd does not seem to detect the device, and I cannot seem to get into a recovery mode, just a simple screen as mentioned before (no options other than wipe or exit).

When I first start the phone it's detected by the computer, but then says not recognised. Drivers are installed.

Please advise, thank you.

This is a ongoing problem you can check to see if battery is full someone has told me before to let battery just drain to it die then let it charge up and it will power on . feel free to do the factory data reset and also try to fastboot the recovery IMG via fastboot

Hello,

Thank you for the reply Brainz2013.

I am in the UK, I used a root package I found online. Right now I just have a green robot looking at me, mocking me! the laptop detects a usb device, sometimes as USB storage, every now and then it will say please insert software for your android 1 device, I installed android ADB ot-983 drivers, still adb says device not found.

I have the stock rom on my SD card now, but I cannot get into a recovery mode (other than the one option wipe data menu). I may be overlooking something really simple but I have been trying for days, could someone please give me the basic steps to correct this?

Summary:

*Alcatel onetouch 983
With Android gingerbread - 2.3. Previously rooted.

*Worked fine and was happily rooted for a year, softbricked it by wiping SD card/returning to factory settings before giving it away to a friend,

*Now all I get is the logo screen and sound, sometimes a green robot instead.
I have to remove battery to restart it. I cannot get into the OS at all.

*I cannot get a recovery menu other than a wipe dialogue.

*I Want to restore to defaults/flash stock rom, but adb says device not found when I run cmd adb shell.

Thank you

You can get the wipe data menu that's the recovery the directions I gave you show and help you do the resetting of the device.

Hello,

Thanks, the recovery does not seem to work, and I cannot get the device to talk to the adb, it now says "adb server is out of date... Killing...
*Daemon started successfully*
Error: Device not found

I have the files for the stock rom on the sd card but I have no way of getting them onto the device as recovery shows no options?

Thanks

Using the fastboot commands in cmd I have got some contact to the device, I am not sure the exact commands to move files over, or to restore defaults, thanks.

Hello,

Hello, might be making progress (or maybe not!) in command prompt adb did not detect the device, I was however able to get fastboot to work, I used the command fastboot oem unlock, then I used the commands fastboot erase boot, and the same for userdata, system. that worked, I then used the commands fastboot flash boot boot.img (and the same for recovery and system. )

However, it still does not work and still gets stuck on loading screen.
What am I doing wrong?.

Thanks.

Judging by how your computer and ADB are "seeing" your phone, my guess is it's not turned on. Honestly, I don't know anything about your phone, but if it's running GB, I doubt anyone would even want it. ;)
