Alright, so JUST bought the new droid RAZR off ebay using every last cent i have, dropped it in the toilet, struggle, grabbed it pretty fast let it sit in rice all day sunday, tried it mon. morning, no response put it back in rice and in the sun tried it this morning, and it came on with the battery as if it were charging. however its been on the charger for about half an hour and STILL at zero?!?!?!

should i just wait and maybe its just charging slow for some reason, or should i get a new battery for it, IF THATS EVEN POSSIBLE.

YUP, its true. im a HUGE ditz.

Hi Miranda, welcome to the forum - sorry it had to be for this reason.

I presume by now you've had it plugged in all night, what's the current status?
I've seen various threads around stating it's possible to put a new battery in phone. Some folks say it's easy, some folks say it's not for the feint hearted - never done it myself, so I couldn't say.

(moved from the All Things Root section)

My wife dropped her old phone in the toilet awhile ago. It was never the same since then. The battery would run out twice as fast. Meaning she used to get 2-3 days on the battery and now it was dead before she went to bed on the first day.

Finally what happened was my 1 year old son stepped on it and cracked the screen. Couple months later I got her the Droid 4. :)

Dont drop in toilet! LOL I dont get it the phone is coated with Nano coating inside and out and I saw video's where the phone should be ok but you are proof it's not. Sorry for your loss

Moisture resistant and proof are two different things.

When drying out a phone you have to be patient. One day in a bag of rice is seldom enough. Turning the phone on so soon after the incident is risky, as moisture could still short some connections. IMO, turn your phone off immediately, and put it back in the rice for a couple days – even longer maybe. Unfortunately the damage may have already been done, be it from the initial “wetting” or turning the phone on too soon afterwards.

If it’s still acting up after a couple days in the rice, reset to factory condition.

Hey Miranda, welcome to the forums!

Please don't let what you experienced on this thread (if you saw the replies before they were deleted) be an indication of what you will see forum wide. I apologize for some of our less understanding members' comments.

If members want to be allowed to make snarky and rude comments to brand new users asking for help, they are more than welcome to head to one of these other places communities where that might work for them. Here on AF, we do try to maintain a friendly and welcoming place.

Good luck with your phone, I hope it works for you after a proper dry out - it can take a good bit of time.

Well I know it's too late now but you should have shaked all the water you could from out of top where headphone jack is and maybe try vacuuming it with hose from vacuum and then the rice for minmum of 2 days, more like 3-4 and it might have been ok. Good luck.

One proven remedy for excessive moisture in a device is to apply with cotton or cotton swabs liberal amounts of rubbing alcohol.. really get it wet with the alcohol, as it will displace the water that is left in the device, clean things around the contacts and evaporate quickly.

The slow/low charging time could well be due to contacts in the charging circuit obscured or compromised by foreign matter and/or moisture; in other words, the contacts are falsely "larger" and/or weaker than when dry, so voltage is a bit dissipated at that point and not concentrated as it should be. It doesn't take much. The alcohol will take care of that. :)

"For use on circuit breakers, electronic relays, switches, terminals and sensors, contacts, printed circuit boards, and motor controls."

I'd be worried about that type of product getting onto the camera lens/mechanism, screen and other areas that do not fall into the category of their "for use on..." list.

Alcohol is quite benign with regard to that. Nothing complicated about it, no "formula" of chemicals, just fast evaporating alcohol.

If anything would lead that way, it would be the speculation when the the phone launched, it was water proof.

Bad luck though and not a hard to happen as somemay think.

Wow, you have to be pretty brave to continue with bickering and snark after a Mod AND our Site Admin has asked for it to stop.

Hi Miranda, I'll reiterate what Phases has said, I'm truly sorry that this thread has taken a turn for the worse and it is not indicative of the behaviour of the vast majority of our user base. Unfortunately, as it stands, I feel if I leave this thread open, it will continue.

There's some good info here and it should (hopefully) sort your phone out. If not, feel free to drop me a PM and I'll see if there's anything else we can do.
