Root Please Help, Wi-Fi not working.

Woke up this morning to my Wi-Fi constantly switching between obtaining IP to disconnecting back to obtaining IP and over and over, no matter which router I try to connect. At first I thought it may be my CM7 installation so I did a full wipe and reinstalled. At first boot I set up my router and all seemed fine until I rebooted my phone. After the reboot it started doing it again so I decided to install Miui and again Wi-Fi worked until I rebooted my phone. Currently back on my CM7 backup as I had the same issues on other Roms, Very strand as it only works after flashing a new Rom and then only until the phone reboots, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try rebooting the router itself.

I have about a dozen times and just in case that had been the issue I tried both my Moms router and a BK hotspot with the same result. It will work only the first time I boot the phone after doing a wipe and flashing a Rom. If I reboot the phone without restoring anything on the new Rom wifi will not work. Has been the same result with Miui and CM7, only works the first time I boot the phone after flashing. Is very strange.

Alright. When you reinstall CM7 or MIUI, do you reinstall all the apps you had on it? Are you doing this form a nandoid or completely fresh install?

They are fresh installs after wiping data, cache, formatting system and wiping delvik cache. The first time when it worked after CM7 booted I did restore a few user apps via Titanium but after that I have done 2 more fresh installs ware I did not restore any apps or data and had the same result.

Did you retore any task killers or memory managers?

Also, check your setting(mostly in WiFi).

Nothing restored and the settings look ok. Worked fine all last night. Woke up this morning and the battery had died overnight. I plugged the phone in for a few minutes and powered it on. This is when the fun started.

Well this is weird, just did yet another fresh install of CM7 and this time after the phone booted up I connected to the Router and ran the fix permissions option in Rom Manager . After Rom Manager did its thing I turned Wi-Fi off and rebooted the phone. After the phone booted up I waited about ten minutes and turned Wi-Fi on via the notification bar. Was expecting it would not work like the 5 or 6 times before but to my surprise the little Wi-Fi symbol on the top bar popped up and stayed, unlike before it did not Immediately disappear , reappear, disappear and you all know the rest of that story. The things I did differently this time was A, Rom manager permissions which I don’t actually think was the fix as I have flashed back and forth between Roms about 25 times and never had anything like this happen or needed to fix any permissions. B was that I turned Wi-Fi off before rebooting the phone. I think this may have been the fix but I have a gut feeling that if I now reboot my phone without first turning off Wi-Fi it won’t work again after the reboot. Will try this in a few and type back. Should also try walking out of range and seeing if it will be able to connect again when returning before I start my victory dance.

OK so as it stands now Wi-Fi works but if it’s left on when the phone turns off once it reboots, it will stop working completely until I do a full wipe and flash a fresh Rom. After flashing the new Rom it will work fine unless I reboot the phone why Wi-Fi is turned on. If I turn Wi-Fi off before rebooting and then wait until the phone has finished booting up before turning Wi-Fi on everything works ok. It looks like the problem occurs only if Wi-Fi is on when the phone boots up. It’s the craziest thing and having a hard time wrapping my head around it as it just does not seem to make any sense. It does this with zero apps installed after flashing so I don’t think it’s an app as it occurs regardless if anything has been installed after flashing. I also know this is a new issue because in the past after flashing cm7 I would turn Wi-Fi on and reboot the phone after signing in with Google and before downloading any apps from the Market or restoring from Titanium. For now I will just need to be careful about turning off Wi-Fi before turning off or rebooting the phone but I know I will one day forget and then need to do a wipe and re-flash my Rom which will suck.

im having the same issue too. but i only have got the wifi to work 1 time.
I think its time to call VM and tell them my charge port is broke LOL.

kleh! please go into more detail. got a fresh moto triumph. flashed with CM7 droid 2.3

the wifi connects. but then disconnects over and over.

honest to god the speeds are baaad on this phone my OPV always had 3+ bars. and the wifi was as strong as they feed it to my house sitting at 2MBps

a speedtest on the mobile 3g has been ugly. the worst ive received was 49kbps down 94 up.. -_- wait what? more upload than download. oh and the ping is ALWAYS 200+

either this phone is defective. or it truely sucks signal wise. or its a software issue my prob is i didnt try the wifi before flashing. but even activation was interrupted as it losses any connection then reacquires it. phone calls are A ok though....

i wanna love the triumph so much but this is killin it. or maybe just a simple defective or older model. mind shareing more details about your prob?

I always get faster upload speeds then download... signal is barely less than on the OV the bars at the top say very little signal wise... If you want to actually compare signal strength compare the dBm (settings> About phone> Status> signal strength and it will say for example -90 dBm). I've noticed compared to the OV there is barely any change if any at all... Speeds though I get slow speeds even with a great signal :/. It's like VM throttles but I don't know...

-93 dBm 0asu

CMDA EvDo revA

but why cant my wifi stay connected and neither of them feel streamy when tested. they had major pauses and lags. and the high ping : /

are you sure about the download/upload?? just like in the PC world you almost never get as fast of upload as you do down. and they more likely than anything throttle your upload as they dont want them people uploading 900 pics to bring there servers to a crawl?

Try resetting your router.

wifi still disconnects. its fast but it disconnects. : /

and the 200+ ping on sprints network? >_<

EDIT:939. and im for some reason sitting on 1x connection in town in the 2nd top floor of my duplex . not other apps really running

and. thank you for responding and helpin me out, ive seen many posts by you and you help out alot of people! :D

I get 200+ ping usually too... I seriously think where I live VM throttles my connection...
Also I read something a while back on the OV forums when I still had and used my OV and it said something about calling and getting your 3g upgraded or something? It might have actually been back when I had my Rumor Touch... Either way its been a while and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about that and if that may be a factor...

You might want to try reflashing the ROM. Make sure you do not restore app data through TB (at least until you test the wifi), or add anything on besides Gapps. Try setting up the wifi before syncing your Google account.

I have horribly slow data speeds over 3G. That is a network issue, my wife's OV has the same issue. We have fairly similar signal on our phones as well (not exactly the same, but not far off, and it isn't always the OV with a better signal). Wifi works great for me (and is usually what I use). If you are getting a much worse signal than your OV there may be an issue with that specific phone, but not necessarily the Triumph in general.

And to add the main difference between the OV and MT's radio is the OV has a dual band radio (800, 1900) and the MT has a single band radio (1900), but from what I understand the OV doesn't even use the second band (800) since it's for roaming... So signal shouldn't be all that much different just make sure when comparing signals not to use the bars at the top as they aren't as accurate... Regarding wifi I've gotten disconnected from mine when I wasn't running any apps or using wifi and my screen goes to sleep... Other than that I haven't had any issues which means it could be a problem with your router, phone, distance from your router, or your rom isn't flashed properly/ settings are messing with it...

The dual band won't matter/ At least it shouldn't unless you get your phone to roam on Verizon's towers (I don't think any other US carriers use that band, but I might be mistaken), so you are right there. The big thing when comparing bars is the MT has 4 and the OV has 6, it's apples and oranges and isn't even very accurate if they were the same. The dBm is what you want to look at, which has been said here already :)

Not trying to correct you marc12868, just clarifying a bit.

Funny this thing is still around, anyhow my issue persisted like I said above for a month or two then one day I forgot to turn the wifi off and every thing just worked, never figured out what caused the issue.
