Root Please help with Droid 3 rom backup...I don't understand where i've gone wrong

So I have rooted my phone successfully and installed the rom manager and flashed ClockworkMod 5.0.2.6...when I attempt to use the app to either reboot into recovery or backup my current rom it just seems to do a simple reboot having created no backup files at all...when I try to reboot into recovery all it seems to do is a simple reboot but not into recovery...I tried to reboot holding power and M and go into the recovery option and all I saw was the android icon and a large triangle with a exclamation point in the middle and it seemed to stall out....is this a normal image to see during this process?

It sounds like you haven't properly flashed the recovery, try doing it outside of the ROM manger with http://www.hash-of-codes.com/Droid3CWBootstrap.apk and the ROM manager will pick it up

ALTHOUGH Uninstall the current recovery through ROM manager before doing this

Hash of Codes: Stock CM Bootstrap for Droid 3

I ended up (literally just did it) installing the droid3bootstrap.apk and I was able to access the recovery though the bp tools...I do appreciate your help though..thank you

you know I just realize I didn't do this "ALTHOUGH Uninstall the current recovery through ROM manager before doing this" but it seemed to work....all I did was run a backup and restart and everything seems to be working fine...I am curious though...do I need to do something more to the recovery image before I get into installing new Roms?

I did just download/flash the recovery tonight with rom manager and the bootstrap.apk seems to be made by the same people...I am hoping/assuming I got lucky and had the correct recovery installed or else it would not have rebooted correctly?

basically I had used rom manager to flash not the latest but the alternate ClockworkMod recovery and then I used the instructions on this link to install the .apk and it says it is the clockworkmod.apk...assuming because the recovery and the apk were related that is why I did not have an issue? sorry for all the questions just trying to gain a better understanding of these phones

do I need to do something more to the recovery image before I get into installing new Roms? I don't think you would need too with the ROM manager recovery install. I only say think because I don't want to mis lead you

I am hoping/assuming I got lucky and had the correct recovery installed or else it would not have rebooted correctly? If it restarted AND you can reboot into recovery using the ROM manager, it was installed correctly. Just be warned, some Recovery can NOT be booted into from the phone being power off, so... Basicly, You need a working phone, to restore a bricked phone. All in one. Bad Cycle.
They may of fixed this though, I'm not sure
(The recovery I gave works with both ROM manager and the Cold boot, but it's up to you)

assuming because the recovery and the apk were related that is why I did not have an issue? I'm not sure on that one. I haven't seen any issues like this, but whatever you have done seems to have done the trick

sorry for all the questions just trying to gain a better understanding of these phones It's all good, don't be sorry for asking questions to gain an understanding :D "Asking Questions is how the Noob becomes the Experienced User"

Lets try this post again....It installed the .apk version that is 4.0.x.x which is way off of what I have previously tried to flash...is the fact that it is working and booting properly to the recovery manually an indication the the original flash attempts with rom manager were unsuccessful and the first successful attempt was the manaul loading of the .apk?

I think what I need to do is uninstall the current bootstrap by unistalling the recover and put the one you linked me to onto the sd card and reload that bootstrap? correct?

**I went ahead and did as I asked above and everything you said held true...I am now able to reboot to recovery using the rom manager with that .apk installed...running a backup as I type...kinda glad I had to go through all of this because it taught me a lot more than doing it once and getting it right would have...thanks a million man**
