Ok I've got my motorola triumph, a computer, and all weekend to get a custom rom on this thing. Here comes the problem part, I can't seem to get it to be recognized by a computer I've tried multiple computers, multiple data cables, different usb ports (2.0 and 3.0) My phone is rooted gingerbreak 1.2, usb debugging on, and in mass storage instead of diag. I'm on a mac, so if anyone else has a mac and has experience with this problem your help would be much appreciated. So, again just to clarify here's the problem I go into download mode while phone is not connected to the mac.. I plug it in, but nothing happens MOBILE does not appear. I've searched, but was unable to find if there are drivers I need from motorola or something? Anyway I believe thats everything if you need more info I will gladly try my best to answer lol

hmmm... will the computer recognize it when it is not in download mode? Make sure you have all the drivers installed before you try to connect it in download mode

Nope not recognized whether in download mode or not, and I've searched but no luck finding any for mac. I'll google it again lol

also, if you plug it in and you get a prompt. select "ignore" and give it 15 secs or so. then it should mount

you can also try unmounting and remounting the SD card, then use Salling Media Sync (for mac) :D

yeah Mac OS X 10.6.8 if tht helps, and nothing on the mac happens, and my phone just charges if I plug it in normally. Nothing if I plug it in in download mode. No noises, nothing in finder, no MOBILE on desktop :(

EDIT: Just read tht I'll give it a try

No prompt, unmounted and remounted no luck, salling media also wouldn't bring it up. Would it help if I just formatted my phone and went completely back to stock? Also, I see when people plug there phones in on screenshots a usb symbol appears in their notifications bar I most certainly do not get that lol

If you are not getting the notification (on the phone) it is probably something related to your phone that is the issue, not the computer.

You can try a factory reset, not sure if it will help, but it can't really hurt.

It looks like there is an issue with your connection somehow (duh, right?). I am guessing that the problem is the USB port on your phone. Mine will have that issue sometimes but moving the cord around (well the end of it plugged into the phone specifically) until I see the icon in the notification bar. I do this with the phone setting on my desk (or some other convenient surface) and make sure the cord stays put once the phone is recognized. There are times this is really hard to pull off, but usually it just take a small wiggle.

If none of that works (the reset or the wiggle method ;)), I would call VM and talk to them about replacing the phone as there is more than likely a hardware issue at fault. This is definitely not normal behavior as I thought a Mac would work much like a Linux distro and would show the phone as drives and mount them automatically.

Also, thanks for the detailed info to start this post off (and the informed replies in the other post where you started with this issue). It makes it much easier to troubleshoot when all pertinent info is given, so we don't have to ask a ton of questions to get to the point.

Wiggling worked to an extent lol it came up in my notification bar and I put it in usb debugging, but no luck on it coming up on the mac. I might go to a friends and try his pc with this new knowledge of wiggling lol Like I tried it the other day when you said that, but it didnt make a difference today, however after slamming it around different outcome

I would say it is an issue with the port then.

tried it on a few different computers again, definitely leaning toward it being a hardware issue because I believe it wasnt coming up after giving me the notification because I was using a different data cable. So I tried it with the motorola one that comes with the phone and even with wiggling it wouldn't come up, appeared for like maybe a second then dropped. So it could be the cable (which charges the phone no problem) or the actually spot where I plug it into my phone.

haha well I applaud your enthusiasm

EDIT: I called and they are sending me a replacement, so I'll post again if it doesn't work when I get the new one lol

Thanks again for all your help
