Root Please Help

I have recently purchased a droid incredible. I have been trying to root this dang thing the last few days.

When I try unevoked with the custom recovery I get a "failed to install recovery image"

When I try through ZergRush I get "hellions with blue flames" and doesnt root. I have already did a complete reformat of the incredible just to be sure and its not that.

Please help me. Im not the best with adb but I can do it if there is copy paste lines

Wow, I'm in the exact same situation. Just wiped my DInc, same "Hellions with BLUE flames" and "failed to install recovery image" error messages.

Can anyone tell me of any log files or other places that might help me troubleshoot this?

FYI, I found out I was running an older version of unrevoked. I downloaded the latest version and it got a little further. It rebooted several times and my new error message is "Error: failed get root. Is your firmware too new?"

Ok so I made a great amount of progress today, So I found on here the stock gb update zip that launched last year, which makes it version: 4.08.605.2
Then I booted to hboot and updated it, and it took! Then zergrush took great and then I was able to get it down to 2.2 and now I am getting another error with Evrevoked lol but im closer

You need to run the older version of unrevoked, try updating your OS like the user below did.

what error are you getting on 2.2? Is clockwork recovery installed?

When I use the 322 reflash version it just says "Failed to flash recovery"
on the newest version of unrevoked it says"Failed to unlock NAND flash?"

And I have tried it as administartor and not as admin
I have tried it with custom recovery, and without
I have tried it with "disable security on phone" and without
and every combination you could think of the three, and still an error message everytime

Can I just use a different method to root and s-off? For somereason this phone just HATES Unrevoked

If you have clockwork recovery installed, all you need to do is flash the s-off file:
public:forever [RootWiki] from recovery.

I have used Z4 root to gain temp root and installed clockwork recovery and then flashed the partition but it wont boot to it.... Can i flash the forever.zip inside the OS?

You could use the htc dev method to unlock your bootloader, then install clockwork through hboot.
http://androidforums.com/incredible...ow-unlock-downgrade-achieve-s-off-htcdev.html it doesn't involve using unrevoked at all.

Then flash s-off.
There is no way I've ever heard of to install clockwork while booted.
