Hi,
Me and my partner both got s3's recently his on contract mine on like buy as you view. Mine received the 4.1.1 update through the phone and after waiting a few weeks and still nothing on his we decided to update it via computer. I used odin because i saw on a post that thats what you were supposed to use and flashed it to 4.1.1. I then realised i had put the wrong version on (German one i think) and it was causing errors so we flashed again to 4.1.1 the UK version.
He is now on:
Android version 4.1.1
Baseband version I9300XXDLID
I do not know if that's correct but everything seems a ok.
However since then my phone received the 4.1.2 update and we want the same update on his phone. It does not find it on the phone. Since then i learned KIES is the samsung software not odin. No updates can be found via KIES cos the software isn't supported. I want to be able to use KIES with his phone again, can i reverse the odin update anyway?? I rang samsung and he told me it will be like that forever now and i will never be able to use KIES?
Can anyone assist me. I really want ot be able to update from KIES again instead of using odin.
Sorry if i sound like a noob im only good with apple technology haha!!

P.S. My software is
Android version 4.1.2
Baseband version I9300XXELLA

we are both on Orange if thats any help? His came on Ice Cream Sandwich though and mine came on 4.1.1

I know i can just use odin to update to 4.1.2 BUT i dont want to. I want to be able to do updates on the phone again or through kies.

When you flash the wrong countries firmware, you change the CSC code. This is a code that tells Kies and your phone, what country and what carrier branded firmware it has, ergo where it gets future updates from too.

The best thing in my opinion would be to flash the Orange 4.1.2 manually (Again using Odin).

You can get the latest Orange firmware from this link but you need to sign up (free):

You'll have to flash the original Orange firmware via Odin to get Kies to work. Without knowing what CSC code it was on it is a matter of trial and error.

Here is the list of Orange UK firmwares from Sammobile :

Best guide for Odin is here:

Only follow the section called "Flashing Firmware with Odin"

Once you have official orange, your CSC will be correct moving forwards. Future updates should work.

Sorry Just re read that again now im even more confused haha!! Shall i flash with one for no network, one for orange or the one for ee? Will i be able to get the updates again if i do it with either or does it have to be specific? thanks

The link I gave you goes straight to the orange section. If the phone was originally Orange, before it was fully EE, go with that.
