Root Please point me in the right direction...

So, I had an ORANGE branded HTC Desire Black, with the latest update that Orange pushed (about 10 years ago... or so it seems).

Yesterday I decided enough was enough and used unrevoked to root my phone, then downloaded dGB and put it on the mem card and loaded it up.

Everything seems fine, except that the 3G doesn't seem to work.

Please don't flame me for being a noob, I have searched here and googled and think that maybe I have done one of 2 things wrong, I just want someone to point me in the right direction... Thanks

I think maybe:
1) I didn't S-Off? Or does unrevoked sort that out?
2) I need some separate radio drivers, but I'm not sure if I need ones specific to my phone, or specific to the ROM I installed (dGB).

Please advise which guide I should read next to sort my problem!!
Thanks :)

As of right now my phone says:
Android Version 2.3.5
Baseband Version 32.48.00.32H_5.10.05.30
Mod Version dGB-01282012

Actually the answer to this is actually in the dGB thread. The ROM is very compact, and amongst the things trimmed down to achieve this size is the APN list. So you will need to set your APN information by hand to get mobile data access (or back up from your previous ROM using an APN backup app and then restore them). You should be able to find the APN settings easily with a web search.

S-Off isn't essential with this ROM, but you don't get the real benefit (much more space for data) without that. So I'd recommend reading the root memory faq to learn how to do this - probably running revolutionary is simplest, but only as far as getting S-Off, nothing else. But do the reading first :)

Re: APNs see below.

Ok, so I read about memory and S-Off, I get it now, that enables you to resize the partitions hence getting more memory back, especially with dGB and it's nice small footprint.

I already tried the Revolutionary method on Ubuntu, but couldn't seem to get it to do anything. Clicked the file, it did nothing.... I am a Linux noob too, so is there a step I missed? (download, unzip, open...)
If this isn't working I guess I'll try one of the long (usb) methods.

Nope. Neither of those are the problem. Did you backup your APN's first?

Hmm. I'm not sure, I guess not. I used MyBackup Pro and sent all the backups to SD, then I copied my entire SD to my desktop, but I guess that didn't include them?

Anyway, bit of Googling later (see, just needed to be pointed in the right direction...) and it works!! Found a couple of pages [Orange UK APN and Network Settings | Android UK News, Reviews and Allsorts | Google Android Phone News and Reviews & ]Access Point Name (APN) settings for UK mobile network providers. - ZTE Blade / Libra - Blade.MoDaCo.com - MoDaCo with the details.

Only question is, do I need to enter any other APNs or other settings to get 'everything everywhere' working (orange/tmobile shared signal)?
This seems to suggest no, I don't need another APN: T-Mobile Discussions - Discussions - APN settings for Orange and abroad for T-mobile customer

Thanks for the help folks!!

The guide says check on A2SD using 'Quick System Info' which I just downloaded...
It says total: 39.61MB, Free: 12.56MB.

Which seems to indicate A2SD is all working.

So, I thought this required S-Off, but I seem to understand now, that S-Off is not required for A2SD, but it will enable changing Internal/System Storage/System Cache ratios to give me more room on Internal??

Re. APNs, I don't think you do. I never changed mine when they started sharing.

As for revolutionary, did you try running it from the command line? Open a terminal, cd to wherever you unpacked it to, then type ./revolutionary.

No, QSI is confused by dGB, which has no a2sd script. And to repeat, dGB has no a2sd script - that's why you need to change hboot to get the best from it.

But make sure you know what you are doing first. The procedure isn't too hard, but it's vital you don't get it wrong. If in any doubt, ask first. And the most appropriate hboots are those from the dGB site (I use the 65MB one to give a little more space for theming, but the ROM itself fits perfectly well in the 60MB one).
