Please show me a video that looks decent on the SR!

I rely on my smartphones to watch videos (Netflix, YouTube etc) often and I have been generally underimpressed with the video play back quality on the SR. I have yet to find a video that doesn't look pixelated or choppy (even over wifi). Is this normal? Can someone point me to any video that actually plays back in decent quality? Or is this the SR's weak point? Otherwise loving the device, its just the video playback is less than desired. Maybe I'm watching the wrong videos. Thanks for any feedback!

HD you tube is about it. I too noticed this when uploading a vid of my son. Def looked much much better on the 4s, just doesn't have the real estate the SR has though.

Hrm...I will have to check this out. Everything I have loaded on the SD card looks great. I don't stream though.

it looks fine on my phone... i'm using it on HSPA+ with HD on and i think it was slightly choppy while it was loading but it seems fine when i paused it for 5seconds and then played it

nvm... the video resolution on YouTube is definitely lower... it's pretty bad.. the screen size inky went up.2 inches... how the hell does this happen?

No issues here. Are you guys hitting HQ?

In the past I have made adjustments to the default stagefright settings in build.prop and it has significantly improved streaming....I have not done so yet on this device but it is

media.stagefright.enable-player=true
media.stagefright.enable-http=true
media.stagefright.enable-fma2dp=false
media.stagefright.enable-aac=true
media.stagefright.enable-qcp=true

A lot of times other things break when changing true to false.. you must also be rooted.

There are some new things here that I have not seen before so proceed with caution.

Thnx Mr Ed, yeah that didn't look too bad. I found some Tron/Avatar/Transformer trailers that looked decent too but nothing to be excited about. On that trailer you posted I saw a lot of striping on the darker scenes which I think we all experience. Bummer. I feel like I'm buying at the wrong time because all the new or rumored phones have high res screens. At one point I heard about a GS2 HD LTE...Who knows, Samsung may pop that out next week at the rate they've been going. Think this one is going back for now, and I'll wait for a month or two. If nothing better comes about on AT&T (NEXUS please), I'll know that the SR is a solid device that I could live with. Thanks again!

hmmm well i noticed last night the quality were crap!! and the screen looked like there was a thin layer of cloth over them... as in i was seeing some light lines that looked like fabric running across the screen, but it turns out it's due to me having the brightness at its lowest... but i didn't notice this issue the ogs2 cause i always run it on darkest brightness

and bhype1, i dont think they'll be releasing galaxy s2 HD LTE, that was only released in korea. And when they were released, they released galaxy s2 lte with at the same time. and i think we're approaching release date of galaxy s3 way too close for them to release another mod of galaxy s2

I believe some may be blaming poor quality content on the phone.. and that is not the case at all. This phone has an amazing display

The problem is the content being streamed. Its compressed for one.....two who knows what its native resolution is. Lets also not forget that much will depend on your internet speeds as well.

Very true, that was part of my problem. The trailer you pointed us to looked pretty decent on high brightness. Still I crave a little higher resolution.

Here's a tangent, anyone know about 45 day returns at BestBuy with Silver rewards? How does this work with a AT&T contract upgrade? Thanks!!

hmm i got that offer too, if i remember correctly, u can't back out of a contract after 30days, but bestbuy will allow you to return the phone for an exchange upto 45days

This is incorrect unless it was a full price cash purchase. Due to the 30 day policy implemented by the carrier..you only have 30 days to return a phone at best buy and receive your upgrade back.

if it was a full price cash purchase of the phone, you do have 45 days.

We will get the prime on att...I have not kept up with the release schedule while on vacation, but last I heard was January Feb. We may see the note around christmas.

Have any of you gone in and tried to watch these same videos on a display like the vivif or atrix 2?

I am curious if there is much of a difference.

Today was the 30th day of my purchase so I made a last second effort to make sure I wanted to keep the SR . Tonight I ran down to Att to look at the vivid to see it that was an option one last time and if not, I'd run over to BB and return the SR outright (I go to the att store since they have the live demos on floor). While there one of the att guys comes by with his sgs2sr and I ask him about video playback. He shows me a video he put on his sgs2sr and it was crisp. That sent me home happy with the SR. Guess either the content I was watching was of lower quality or YouTube/Netflix is limiting the quality of the stream. I think I can be content with the SR. I know ill want the nexus when it hits att but I just can't wait any longer with my 3gs limping. The SR for me is a huge improvement anyway. Thanks for all the feedback!

Wait, how was today the 30th day for you? The phone released on the 6th???

What you mention is one of the things I tried referring to above. I have a number of HD videos and clips on my phone...all are crystal clear and sharp...there is going to be some "choppiness" to any content dloaded.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I originally bought the SGS2 on 10/20 then returned for the SR.

ah, i'm in the same boat, i bought sg2 but it broke and they forced sr on me... and tomorrow is the last day for me to return it. I'm pretty happy with everything except the battery. I was able to get 1.5days with the same medium usage but i just can't seem to get anywhere near that on sr... i'm looking at about 8hours on sr

I'd like to copy some of my fav movies over to my SGS2 Skyrocket. I have the movies on my laptop currently... anybody know the best settings to use to convert my movies to the best possible format? Also, any recommended software to convert?

Thanks!

My experience so far has been of an excellent video playback. You are obviously having bandwidth problems.

Every video I watch on YouTube looks blurry or pixelated, just bad. It's not a bandwidth problem since on my wifi I get about 30-40mbps up and around 4 or 5 upload. Even with HQ selected it doesn't help. Is it because of the screen's low resolution? I'be had this phone for about a week and a half and I like it, the screen is very bright and the colors are great but YouTube videos not looking good kind of sucks. I did a lot of research before getting this and almost withheld doing so in order to get a phone with an HD screen.

To see if it's the phone. Rent or buy a movie through 'media Hub' and you will see some amazing quality video.
