So I've gotten this message twice since upgrading to ICS. The first time I didn't have MCC_OTA and the SmithMicro components frozen, so I promptly froze them and rebooted the phone. The message went away.

I look at my phone earlier and I see the message again. MCC_OTA and SmithMicro are still frozen. The phone will place/receive calls.

For laughs, I let it sit for a couple of hours. No change. I reboot the phone and the message disappears.

Anyone know why this keeps showing up?

I'm rooted and using TiBu to freeze the components.

Hello Mayhem.

Try (carefully) removing and reinserting your sim card (powered down/off, of course ;)).

That's just it, the phone is fine. Just wanting to know why it's happening and how to get it to stop.

is there a way to fix this? I have been getting the message more often and battery pulls don't seem to work every time now.

So I re-flashed using the updated ROM from InfectedROMs and applied their OTA-killer "patch". I got this again yesterday.

Annoying...

Did you make sure your SIM card is seated well? Also make sure your SD card is seated well. My daughter's TB did this some and I reseated the SIM card and it hasn't happened since.

I'll give that a shot, but also noticed that I forgot to re-freeze com.smithmicro.DM as well as MCC_OTA after reinstalling my ROM. I re-froze them this morning after seeing it again.

I'll know in a week or so whether or not either/both worked.

I had this happen about a year ago. Re-seated the card and it seemed to be fine. Now I get it some days, I check the card and it's fine for a week then I have to do this again. Big suprise, Verizon was no help, they did the same thing and told me that should fix it up. It appears mechanically sound, there's only one way for the card to fit, and it 'feels' like it re-locks just fine.

I took out the battery, and all cards. Cleaned contacts with eraser. Reinstalled everything, and problem vanished.

But how long ago did you do this? I'm seeing this pretty regularly, but haven't tracked the number of days between when the message appears.

It happened again the other day, so it may be happening every 5 or so days.

I really need to keep track of that...

So tonight I get something new.

PUK code is locked.

Another reboot and it's OK again.

I hadn't done anything with the phone. It was sitting on my nightstand, face-down and hadn't been touched for an hour or so.

Go figure.

I hate to suggest this, but ... Have you thought about FXZing your TB back to stock and running it that way long enough to see if you get the message on stock. That you narrow the problem down to hardware or software. If you get it on stock, its more than likely hardware. If it goes away, maybe its the ROM.

Just a suggestion,

Yeah, I'd thought about that last night. I *think* I still have the radios from GB and a couple of Team BAMF ROMs saved on a network drive at home.

I really hope it's the software. I don't want to have to go back to using my Droid 3.. I'd love to get an S4 but there's no way in h*ll I'm shelling out $600+ for a new phone.

We are upgrading this month and I and my wife both have S4's in our future. My daughter, who has a TB currently, is moving to the Razr Maxx HD and my son gets my current Bionic. I am ready for a change. I just hope the S4 lives up to the hype.
