Pogo dock finally available for CDMA Nexus

It should just be the same desk top clock you get to by clicking on clock, or by going into settings in the alarm app, and selecting desk clock.

On there you have three choices, regular bright clock with your background, half dimmed clock with your background, or blacked out clock that moves every 30 secs or so to prevent burn in.

There's no weather, no music app toggle. Just a desktop alarm clock.

I've heard rumblings of a portrait dock with HDMI out. Has that actually been officially announced by someone, or is it just BS speculation?

Also, do we have ANY other options for charging pins other than this, that doesn't require a MacGuyver-style mod?

That one showed up on the VZW site like a month ago, but has always been "out of stock"

It would charge through USB. HDMI can only be done out the USB port, so rather than connecting the pogo pins AND the USB port, it's easier to just store it in portrait and connect the USB port.
 
OK, for those that have recieved the dock at this point, does yours go straight into car dock mode when docked? I got mine last night and does not. It's done it once, but out the 50 or so times I've tried it, it does nothing. Does anyone know how to force into car dock mode? If possible?
 
Just got off the phone with Samsung, others are reporting the same problem. I'm sending it back as defective, but they are out of the docks right now. ugh....

I tried my friends Nexus and did the same thing as mine. It seems the pins don't recognize that it is docked then failing to launch into dock mode. Without it be launched into dock mode the line out will not work, at least that's how it appears.

Also, as some suspected, audio is not transferred via bluetooth from phone to dock. It is through the pins, or at least one pin.

I don't understand how this is possible. You need a +5V and a ground to charge, so that takes up two of the pins. It's not impossible to transmit a multiplexed audio signal over one pin, but it would DEFINITELY be very surprising if they did so. Typically you need two contacts to transmit audio - a left and right channel. To do it over one pin would require both some kind of proprietary communication protocol and electronics in the dock to both communicate via the protocol and decode the audio signal. This seems vastly more complex and unnecessary than just running Bluetooth... not to mention it's at odds with their past decisions, and at odds with the GSM car dock.

So they implemented this multiplexing audio protocol just for this one dock and this one phone? Seems fishy. How do you know there is no Bluetooth? Did Samsung tell you this?

Of the times I've actually got it to work in car mode I've turned off bluetooth and played Slacker, XM, Pandora and Google Music all worked with bluetooth turned off. Right now I got the dock to work and streamed all the music and Netflix streaming no problem with BT off. No, Samsung did not tell me, maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't it seem that if BT was turned off the line out would not have sound? I'm streaming Netflix right now with the phone docked with BT turned off with audio working great through my Yamaha computer speakers. Would it still pair or transmit somehow with it turned off?
 
Doubtful that it'd work with BT turned off - I can't imagine that Google would allow that kind of circumventing of the UI and user settings; it'd make it a bit of a security nightmare.. I assume you've checked the settings to make sure that connecting it doesn't automatically turn Bluetooth on?

It's weird, I can't remember which app automatically turned on BT but one did but never actually paired or connected. I watched Netflix for about 10 minutes with BT turned off with no problems with audio running through the line out. But one thing that is very annoying besides actually getting it to dock is that for some reason the music apps cut out after about 5-7 minutes, everyone of them. The audio would just drop with BT turned on and off. Netflix did not. Maybe it's the type of mode it's in, car mode??

I was reading on XDA about 4.02 having problems with the dock, but 4.03 did not have problems. Since 4.04 is out, I was thinking of flashing to see if it helps, but I've never flashed a ROM before. I've rooted and unlocked a few times but a little hesitant to flash a ROM. Is it easy to do and easy to undo if I wanted to go back?

Yeah, it's pretty easy... if you're smart enough to root and unlock, installing new roms is a snap.

You just have to make sure you use an app like Titanium Backup to back up your apps and stuff. But it is next to impossible to brick your phone, assuming you don't do anything REALLY dumb :)
 
OK, I flashed 4.04 and dock works just like it supposed to. Brings up the clock mode when first docked, then pressing the back button brings you to the desktop mode. Line out works perfect. Been streaming Slacker for 20 minutes without any cutouts. And BT is turned off, so it must be working on one of the pins. It's not the dock that is the problem, it seems that it's a software update that is needed.

EDIT2: BTW, the volume rocker wakes the phone from sleep while on the dock.

For this dock, would it be possible to mod it such that you exposed the USB port while the phone was in the dock, so then you could use the USB port for HDMI out and then charge it at the same time via the charging pins?

Poor design choice if it doesn't allow for USB to HDMI out. I was actually hoping for a dock that charged via the pins and had USB to HDMI out for video/audio and had BT available. I really want to try Linux on the phone, but it is next to useless without a keyboard (BT or otherwise) and audio/video out. With other phones having BT for keyboard and USB + mini-HDMI it wouldn't be that hard to implement.
 
Richman, now that you have 4.0.4 installed does it show its charging via AC or USB while in the dock? Assuming you have it plugged in AC.

Why?

You can do all of that via the USB port, what advantage is there in using the pins at all?
 
@BV: It's because the battery even when plugged in depletes while mirroring output through HDMI. I assume that some hoped that would be cured by getting a full charge rate through POGO pins rather than half charge rate through USB limitations. I had the same thought myself.
 
There is no (practical) limitation on charge rates through USB...

There could be limitations on certain chargers, if they are not wired correctly. But there are dozens of tablets on the market that charge on 2+ amp USB connections.
 
I just got an email from the Samsung rep I spoke to yesterday.

After speaking with you the other day about the Galaxy Nexus Pogo Dock, I contacted Samsung Headquarters about the issue. They have informed us that there will be an update with Google in about a month, in which after the update the dock will function properly. The accessory was released a little early and we do apologize for this issue. If you still wanted to return it, that's fine; however, if you want to keep it until the update to see if it will then work for you, that is fine also. If you have any questions you may either give me a call or email me back. Again, we do apologize for the inconvenience and hope you have a great day!
